Roy needs to be able to fire McClean and Albalin and pick his own full staff. He also needs to start picking players he wants that can play for him.

That is the major problem. I watched Roy frustratingly yelling at MacLean after he pulled the goaltender something to the effect of cmon let’s get things going. It was futile. It didn’t give me much confidence watching Maclean running the 6 on 5. Roy needs to take over this team from top to bottom. His hands are tied. The shit has hit the fan and Lou needs to go! I hope the owners are listening but soon I expect Roy to be replaced by Maclean. You know it’s coming.

No, he needs to be given a chance to do things 100% his way. Lou forcing assistants on him isn’t ideal.

Yes the assistants play critical roles on teams this guy is a loser at this job. He shouldn’t be coaching the PK and we shouldn’t have the son of an assistant coach playing on the team. It’s an awkward situation and all of Lou’s doing and it’s not fair to his son either.

How can Roy take responsibility for special teams when his “assistants” have close relationships with his boss. Rid the team of Lou and the dynamic changes completely.

He must be totally frustrated. In the NHL at least at the coaching level he had little administrative control. That’s why he left the Avs. Unfortunately he’s back in the same situation on the Island. As a player he had a lot of control minding the net and he proved himself a winner on so many levels quite often the MVP. Feel for the guy.

Very rough to play at home and get shutout by a guy who has spent the bulk of the season in the AHL.

Granted, Merilainen has now won 4 of five straight starts. He came in pretty hot.

I found it curious that after the ENG Roy did not pull Hogberg again with 1:24 left and us controlling the puck in the Sens end. Seems like Roy conceded the game at that point. The team wasn’t challenging the Sens, so the coach wasn’t going to go for it either. Perhaps a Statement about the Isles compete level last night?

Lest anyone misunderstand Lou Lamiorello's unwavering support for his guy let's remember that he hired John MacLean to coach what many thought were going to be a Stanley Cup Caliber roster the New Jersey Devils in 2010.

The hockey world was confused why the team had a horrible 2-6-1 record to start the season and many were questioning Lou's choice of MacLean as head coach. His response was:

"There's no thought whatsoever," Lamoriello told ESPN.com Monday. "John has done an exceptional job. I have no issue with him. Our record certainly isn't what any of us like, but it has nothing to do with coaching." and "I am totally supportive," and "The coaches are doing a good job. There are no issues here. We'll handle things the way we feel they're right. And we'll go forward. We're not going to be concerned about what people think or say." Lou Backs John MacLean

It was not until that 2-6-1 record rose to 9-22-2 did Lou fire MacLean from the Devils and hired the only person he apparently loves more other than Jacques Lemaire.

So we have this guy who at every level from head coach to assistant coach for the Yotes, Sharks, and now Isles has failed dismally ( for 6 years in a row every team MacLean has ever coached on the PP has been close to if not at the bottom of the league and some of those were some of the best PP teams in the league prior to his hiring) and yet Lou Lamiorello rehires him to coach OUR Isles special teams and continues to support him with fanatical loyalty to this very day. Who hires a coach with most horrible record in the NHL at every coaching level but Lou. (because he's family)

If he won't fire MacLean then the owners must fire Lou.

It won't but the roster is only 1/2 of the equation. If you've got the worse PP coach in the NHL for the last 6 years running coaching your PP and your PP is ranked at a historical worse, it doesn't take 1/2 a brain to recognize that maybe you should start there.
