Well, we had our few years of relevance. Back to being an embarrassment for the next 5-8 years.

It’s amazing how other teams can have decade+ runs if being competitive/relevant, but not the isles. Why is that?

My guess is Lou’s hire of Roy is backfiring. A number of the glue players under Trotz have moved on. He over invested in certain players. Lambert was a relaxed coach, something players alluded to for more offense. Lou said the team was ‘inconsistent’ under Lambert. Out went Lambert, in goes Mr aggressive.

Well, this team is consistently crap under Roy. My next guess is a number of these players (yeah, the same ones) have moved on mentally from Roy, they thought it was great to have a HOFer as coach, but now? Not so much.

Trade out of this core asap. Rebuild/retool, whatever, the core ain’t gonna work as they are 100% a main problem.

Teams with goofball/meddlers/absent owners and poor management never do anything consistently but lose. That’s across all sports. The Isles really had a 30+ year run of it.

I dont know how anyone can drive or take the train to see this garbage on ice

unless you have seasons tickets

free tickets I would have a tough time going....go see the isles or do whatever else I want to do tonight
I flew halfway across world with family and tonight was our first game at UBS. Everything was great except the one ice product, which stunk.
Obvious lack of effort. I'll give Holmstrom and Tsippy passes.
Pulock and Pelech. Wtf.
Barzal. WTF.
Nelson. Anybody home?
Players wanting to fight rather than expend that energy on the game itself.
One of the worst sporting performances I've even seen.
The goalie pull smelt like Roy cracking the shits
Got tix to Pens game. I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

My guess is Lou's ability to manage a roster is backfiring. He could have traded Nelson this offseason and ran with Barzal/Horvat/Pageau/Cizikas down the middle.

We all know why. A toxic combination of bad ownership and bad management over many, many years.

What is most troubling is that we all thought that maybe those days were over but, and I'm not up there so I don't know, is Ledecky still a ubiquitous presence the way he was when they were trying to get UBS built? Does anyone hear from Malkin? It just feels like deafening silence from the people we all thought were finally going to be the kinds of owners to make a strong commitment to winning. Instead it seems like they gave Lou the keys and said see you later. Anyway, that's how it feels from a distance.

Playing their best game of the year to now playing their worst game of the year.

I think the true Islanders are somewhere right in the middle.

Told you so
The fact that we lost is not the troubling part. Buffalo is an NHL team with many skilled players, in fact, a better roster than the Isles IMO, so they were not going to lose forever. If we had been in the game against a team desperately trying to head into the break with something positive and lost by a goal or took it to OT that would have been one thing but not what we saw tonight.

Sure, Lou’s time has passed, but that 1-2-3-4 ain’t really advancing anything in reality.

The islanders are a real estate and valuation play for ownership.

I think you are forgetting the assets it would have returned.
Nope, just that’s not enough to turn the tide either. The same core remains in that scenario. You got a draft pick and a 24yr old 3rd liner. Yippe.

At this point.. Palmieri, Nelson, Pageau, Lee, Dobson, Pelech and Pulock should all be expendable and moved for the right price. The only way we see this happen is with Lou gone. This needs to happen sooner rather than later. I didn’t mention anyone else who should also be expendable because old man Lou signed them to ludicrous contracts that nobody wants. I looked at the schedule 2 weeks ago and knew Buffalo would come to UBS on 13 straight losses and beat this team. It’s just way too predictable at this point. Almost the same way that backup goaltenders have career nights against them all the time. Enough is enough

News flash - you will never win with a figure skater as your ‘best’ player. He needs to go first and foremost.
To be fair, he was one of the few showing some intent early, but as the game slipped away he seemed to throw in the towel.

And yet they will squeak in the playoffs and get bounced by CAR round 1!

And Lou will run it back because making the playoffs = "having a chchance"
There is no way this team is making the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if no one on this roster sees the playoffs again in an Islander jersey outside of maybe George or Dobson if they are still around in a decade or so

I think… at this point, anybody could go. We really need a new gm so we could see what direction the team will be headed aka re tool or rebuild. In the case of a rebuild, Sorokin should be dealt as well.

I’m sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen, but the entire roster should forfeit a months pay for that shitshow. It’s quite staggering to lose by SIX goals to a team that hasn’t won a game in a month - I knew we would lose that game last night from the outset, in fact, I knew two days ago we would lose, but to completely fail to show up, to show zero fight whatsoever - why should those bums get paid this month? If I performed that badly in my job I’d be fired.
