trying too hard

Yep. Holmstrom had less puck possession last night. The line is very effective when time of possession is balanced, and it certainly didn't look like that last night. Horvat is letting the goalless streak affect his decision-making.

Really too bad, because they played a classic road game last night and I can't fault anyone's effort last night.

Romanov quietly had a heck of a game, as did Tsyp. Palms was a little off. Dobson actually played pretty well except for that OT confusion.

It's not that just the team sucks (they do). It's such a boring team.

So they don't win and we're not excited to watch them play.

What are we even doing here with this roster construction??? Let's roll it back another year in 25-26.... :(

Things to look forward to for the rest of the season:
1. In March Matt Martin might reach 1000 games. 30 more games.
2. In March selling at the trade deadline
3. In April Leafs losing in the first round
4. In May lottery balls

I'll only believe #2 happens...When it happens.

Jean Gabriel Pageau is a putrid hockey player. If he had only this year left and not one more after he’d be benched. Bring Gautier up.
He's really bad. He never recovered from the wrist injury. Wonder if there are other significant injuries we don't know about. I think he's the most likely player to get bought out. If it's possible to give him away including 50% salary retention, they should do it. But imo I think most people can tell he's done.

Pretty clearly this is the year to sell with Palmieri, and Nelson on their final years. There's no reason to be anything but patient with Dobson. No in-season move ought to be considered for him. As for Lee, any trade of him that would bring back value would involve salary retention. It's not a question about whether NYI should deal him, it's a question whether any offer is good enough to make the retention worthwhile. I think it unlikely any team will offer enough to make that worthwhile. Unless they're offered a 1st+'spect I'd rather keep him. I am not a believer in the veteran-free rebuild. And I don't think that'll happen.

I couldn’t agree more regarding the need to avoid a veteran-free rebuild.

Lee brings intangibles that are hard to appreciate in a season such as this, but we can’t lose sight of that. Would I trade him for the right deal? Absolutely, but even with retention the likelihood of receiving value in return would be unexpected.
