The boys have played worse games.

Sorokin was really good.

I watched the EDM broadcast and all they did was praise him.

They were real impressed with Tsyplakov and George as well.

Hard to play against Draisaitl and McDavid in OT. Always.

But why was Pulock out there for the entire OT??? Couldn't he have changed after a minute or so?

Here is a Positive...
Lee, Showing and improved Game and leading by example.
His play looks 3 to 4 years younger.
I hope he can keep it up!
I think anyone watching that game and this season has to be impressed by what Lee is doing, and certainly Sorokin. I thought Holmstrom had a decent game too. Tsyplakov had moments (but also some questionable moments) and Palmieri's snipe was impressive.

Are the long time posters in the room with us right now?

Seriously, nobody here is upset at any individual loss - the lack of posters is due in part to our small fanbase, in part to HFBoards’ gradual death to new media, and then thirdly the dark long term outlook for the team with Lou at the helm.

It’s not due to… negative posters.

Go look at the Rangers post game thread from last night. There are a surprising number of fans over there clamoring for a retool/rebuild. There’s rampant negativity for an actual winning team.

I’ve said it before, Islanders fans are overwhelmingly positive relative to other fanbases - we are much more likely to welcome and accept mediocrity.
I do think it is important to balance critical posts with positive posts, even if you are on the whole not optimistic about the team's short term future. You'll find the same issue on the other team's boards, with a good portion of the people exhausted by the over the top negative (or positive) posts

I'll add a positive: they're getting points despite being without 2/3 of their top line and all their LHD. Now let's hope they don't pull a Cappy and go 0 for December....

Thanks to those who agreed with me on having more balance here.

I'm always going to be a fan of this team. It doesn't mean I will always sugar coat things, but it's always been about the ride to me, not the destination, when it comes to sports. A number of you know about my lacrosse writings and it's true there too. I am always cognizant of the difference between writing about high school kids vs college and pro players, but this is the NHL.

The thrill of a playoff run, the anticipation of the draft, a surprise trade, a coaching change . . . all fair game for both positive and negative analysis. There is a definite bias towards one side of the equation here.

We are one point out of the WC with all these injuries. This team certainly has guts. The assumption about depth is wishful thinking; very few solid NHL players are playing in college or the AHL currently, as the injury issues across the league are showing.

I am thrilled with how Holmstrom's game is taking off now and look to see if it continues when the injured are back. George has come out of nowhere and who knows if this is a flash in the pan or not. But the ride will be fun, regardless of the destination. Who might be next? Maggio? Jeffries? Odelius? That's the fun part.

Can Pelech become what he was? Is Pulkinnen the real deal? What is with the PK? There was a graphic yesterday about the 4 goalies on the Isles and Oilers and how the PK save % is so bad. How to analyze that?

It's the Lou sucks, Malkin and Ledecky don't care, Barzal is (fill in the blank) stuff that is overcovered that is so much of a waste of time. Stick the Lou stuff in a separate thread and leave the rest of the threads unpolluted by it. Can't we just have that compromise? At least the criticism still occurs, but it becomes an option instead of a constant thread stealer.

How many wanted to dump Lee's contract and constantly harped on it? Now he looks completely rejuvenated and worth every dollar. There's so many threads . . . a player thread, a contract discussion thread, etc., that can be used for that debate. Let's keep GDT's for the game being played.

Pulock had no chance to change because of the icing. Holmstrom had a chance to win a puck battle just outside the blue line but couldn't win it. That was the best chance for him to get to the bench, but he was mostly hemmed in until then.

game day threads are hard to be on....hard enough watching between texting with my mom and my son.

It is frustrating on the phone when it's live and you are trying to type a message . . . and that gray block!!! Has anyone figured why that happens?

It’s a narrative if you want it to be. Otherwise, it’s just the stats.
Bro lost his “we’re a .750 team without Barzal” narrative after they played some good teams and is trying to spin blowing a 3-1 lead with 5 minutes left into a point streak lmaoooo

Guess we don’t need Romanov either! Or pelech… or Duclair… or Reilly….

I don’t think they’re playing all that terribly overall, TBH.. but they have 2 MASSIVE flaws

They sit back on leads and are too passive on special teams. You fix those, you win a lot more games. I’m not sure this team will ever be aces in overtime, but you win in regulation you don’t need to worry about that

Edit: those two and making soft passes in front of their own net. It’s like a feaux Trotz system where a man is in the center of the ice waiting for a pass to help the breakout, but it doesn’t work when the passes constantly get flubbed, or the guy supposed to be receiving the pass vacates before getting it

His decline started before the Stadium Series game, it just magnified it.

Or the stats still show a team gaining points with a winning record during the injury absence.

I guess if you want to add all other injuries in there, well, that’s even more favorable.

Remind one of the Isles record during the COVID games and who was and was not in the lineup when we try to play ‘everyone is just stepping up right now.’

Palmieri didn't mess around settling puck, he one timed it. Perhaps a lesson for others?

What in the world is going on with Dobson boys?

He was a treat to watch last year.
This is a puzzle to me. I could understand him dropping off end of last season, he had a massive workload and a big season, so tiring was understandable.
But he's come out this season with the same lackadaisical play?

Noah needs the Mitch Korn of defensemen to work with him.

Dobson is struggling, no doubt. He looks frustrated.

Just guessing, but I think that he wants to take his game to the next level (what player doesn't?), and is trying to be more physical. And something is not right. I would recommend some martial arts/wrestling, etc..., where he can develop his core and balance, so he can battle harder. Maybe Oates can work full time for the team?

Players are still hesitating when they are supposed to be skating/pressuring opponents. I find myself constantly saying, "why are you standing there? Go get him!".

Frustrating seeing the boys just standing there, like ducks in a shooting gallery.

His decision making is bad and has been bad. Nothing more of less. Devil game highlighted some of his deficiencies. Goals 2 and 3 in particular. Additionally, his puck retrievals and puck management skills below the goal line are very questionable.
