Surprising this Top 4 team is less enjoyable than some of the teams in the past that were not as talented.

I tend of PVR and watch depending on outcome much more frequently than in the past.
I think part of that is that many fans feel that they could and should be much better than they are. Add in that the core 4 come across as greedy and self centred. Finally their press conferences at season end are bad. They never accept any responsibility for their poor playoff performance year after year.

The Leafs bandwagon fills and empties every season, nothing new.
I don’t think it’s fair to claim fans are bandwagon fans.
This team has the most loyal fan base considering the crappy return they have given us for decades

If we're running back the exact same core I probably won't watch all 82, maybe 60ish, if it's against a team like Arizona probably won't tune in. I've watched all 82 for the past like 15-16 years or so but just can't do it if we run it back.

#1 Regular season is pretty meaningless, considering how the playoffs are played and officiated

#2 Divisional format, we'll know our playoff opponent by January again and it'll be this annoying long waiting period til then

#3 Not much to be interested about if it's just the same guys coming back. I love the team, always will but that level of excitement just isn't there for me anymore. It's funny because in the Stajan days we wished for a team with this much talent, now we have it but there are other glaring weaknesses. I just don't believe this core can get it done anymore, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly, something has to change.

I had be-leaf with these guys in the past but enough is enough, we've surrounded them with enough talent, lots of different teams and still only have just 1 series win to show for it.

Only time I lost interest in the team was after the Montreal series. Maybe didn’t watch the first 10 games of 2020/21 season. I don’t think there’s anything that could make me stop loving the leafs. Heart break and glory are both part of being a fan. Will support always!!

I don’t let losses affect my mentality surrounding life at all. Sucks immediately after but then I don’t really dwell on it. So it’s always an enjoyable moment for me to watch.

I kind of disagree with point #2. I think the Atlantic will be the most interesting division next year. Boston is likely to take steps back, potentially the Leafs might, potentially Tampa might as well. Buffalo looks poised, same with Montreal, Ottawa, Detroit and Florida. That division is as wide open as it can be.

I hardly watched a regular season game last season. Of course, it helped that NHL.tv now also has blackouts in Austria, so I canceled my subscription. And that the games here take place in the middle of the night and I now have 3 small children ;-) If the games ran in the evening program as with you, I would probably watch almost all again. But in reality my next games will probably be in next year's playoffs again.

I'll still watch the first round of the draft next week and tune into free agency while I'm up at the cottage, and continue to browse/engage on HF and pay attention to Leafs news through the rest of the offseason.

During the season, I'll watch games that I can, especially Saturday HNIC as I tend to watch while having beers with friends. I'm sure I'll miss some weekday games especially if I have my own hockey games or something, which I'm not worried about.

I posted something like the OP at the start of last year and got ripped.

More and more I am getting less enthusiastic about regular season games, I won't schedule in "hey leafs are playing make sure I'm home in time". It's if I'm late meh not a big deal.....Or if I'm going out for dinner doesn't have to be to a place where the game will be on.

Will still follow the team and watch the majority of game but I'm not watching 82 start to finish like I used to.

Before this season, I use to watch almost every game Leafs... did that for about 20 years.

This season, I maybe watched 10 regular season games. Obviously still watched all the playoff games.

Lots of reasons why I stopped watching so many games. Main reason though is that it was too frustrating watching all these regular season games just to lose in the first round. I might watch more games we're fighting for a playoff spot.

Instead, I'm watching almost all the UFC events (and some other MMA events). I started watching the NFL. Getting more into the NBA. And I also love watching professional counter-strike games.

I used to only watch leaf games (and hardly any other sports)... but after I started doing more online sports betting, it's gotten me interested in other sports because it gives me a good reason to pick someone to cheer for (even though it's a small amount of money). If it wasn't for the sports betting sites, I think I would be pretty much done with watching sports other than watching the Leafs in the playoffs and maybe the superbowl or world cup final or something like that.

I'll still watch, but I'm going to try to watch fewer Sportsnet broadcasts mainly because I hate their coverage and their kowtowing to the league. TSN produces a much better broadcast anyway.

I don't discount regular season success as much as some do. Having to sit through a decade of shit from 05-06 until 16-17 makes me more appreciative of how consistent and well this current iteration of the Leafs play. However, knowing that they're running it back with the same core and head coach doesn't leave me with much optimism come playoff time. That's mostly because of Sheldon though. I'd have a lot more optimism if any change was made to the guys who impact the game most at ice level, but apparently Shanahan disagrees.

So yeah, I'll watch a little less but at the end of the day, hockey is hockey, and I especially like watching good hockey, which is what these Leafs have given us most of the time.

There is gonna be a bit of a long winded question so please read it all;

How engaged were you with the team this most recent season, did you watch all of the games? Most? Some games? Less than usual? and why?

If Sept 1st rolls around, the core 4 are here, Keefe is here, Rielly is here and we've changed things on the fringes...where do you see your level of interest / engagement in watching the team next season? Will you still watch every game? most? some? less? Why?

I know some people watch less as they get older with more responsibilities, kids, wife, job responsibilities etc so it's not because there is displeasure with the team or anything, you love the team but life is busy.

My answer:

I'll be in honest in that my viewing habits having been on the downswing for the last couple of seasons, I don't even know if I sat through 10 entire games last year, maybe the odd period etc but I just didn't care. I check in for the playoffs because at that point, that's what I need to see, playoff success.

I thought the series win would have re-invigorated me as a fan and then the way things ended with Florida...it felt like all that goodwill and optimism just went in the toilet.

Now seeing that this team could be more or less the same collection of losers next season? I'm thinking I am gonna be in the range of 0-5 games, Knies would be about the only intriguing to see at this point until the playoffs rolled around again, maybe Woll's starts too.

Where are you at as a fan?
I’m similar, didn’t watch all of many, if any games last year save the playoffs because I was already fed up with the run-back.

Now my Rae at the run back is increased tenfold so if all of the four pansies are back along with Keefe, which is a 99% probability apparently, I won’t watch a single game next season, merely highlights if anything or game recaps. I’ve seen all I need or want to see from this team.

The only caveat is if they manage to get Tom Wilson, I may tune in then

I started to watch at the beginning of the regular season and really didn't find the team entertaining anymore, just not a fan of a slow hockey team. So I pretty much took the entire regular season off this past year. In fact, I watched more Edmonton games than Toronto games as I enjoyed their more wide open, no defense, games. But I came back to the Leafs and watched all the playoff games. My Leafs fandom peaked in the early 90s and it's nowhere near that level now. Not a fan of this collection of players. And I like the NFL more than I used to, which fills the sports gap for me.

The real disappointing this will be if they run it all back again no matter how well they play next season we won’t be able to trust them to show up in the playoffs for the 8th year in a row.
I’m sure I will still watch but it’s going to be hard find any meaning in the season

Will always follow the team because it's been engrained in my DNA, but I will continue to watch less next year, as I have over the last few years.

Getting older and having more commitments combined with finding much of this team (Marner, Matthews and to a lesser extent Nylander) unlikable has had me watching less and less each year.

My feelings exactly.
We’ve lost before with different teams, it happens, but now, I just don’t like the players.
Some. I still like Rielly. Shame what goes on around him.

Not interested in watching the same core 4 and same coach. What’s the point? The regular season is a gigantic waste of time. I am very disappointed with the Leafs and the NHL lately. It’s a shame because winters can get quite long if you don’t have any games to look forward to watching in the evenings after work. Oh well. The Leafs are delusional thinking their product is so amazing. And so is the NHL.
THIS^.

I'll still watch majority of games, I always do whether we make playoffs or don't, but my hope that this core will ever win the cup is fading.

I have been a die hard NFL Detroit Lions fan just as long as I have been a die hard Leafs' fan. 50+ years. That said, as hockey has become more and more PC and has taken all of the aggressive masculinity out of the sport, plus with it being obvious to anyone with half a brain that this core won't get it done since the Montreal series, I watch almost zero NHL games until the NFL season ends.

I don't wanna watch perimeter figure skating "hockey".

I'll watch late season games and the playoffs with a positive attitude but deep down inside we all know this team as constituted will never win.

The Leafs are my team, and I watch as many games as I can, but I am finding myself also becoming more of an NHL-wide hockey fan. No Leafs? Well, if there is a decent game available to watch, I will watch that.

Having said that, I find myself becoming more hardened to the disappointing results, which is probably healthier than losing my mind over losses. I did that for years as a Leafs and Dallas Cowboys fan, and eventually, I had to learn to become less emotionally invested in things that do not return the feelings. I don’t believe the Leafs (or the Core 4) don’t care about winning…but they don’t care how I feel about them, so I am not going to waste much emotion on what they do.

I want them to win, and will cheer for the Leafs until I die, but I won’t lose my mind over the results.

Haven't watched much the past few seasons, that will likely continue if they run it back with the core 4 plus Keefe.

Dubas being ousted has given me a modicum of optimism for the upcoming season however. More changes need to be made in my opinion, but it's a start at least.

Same deal as always. The playoffs will of course provide the most excitement when such is the expectation for the team and its season.
