Connor mcdavid will be the first max contract player in the league. Period.
Seeing as how the league has already had a max contract player, I'm going to predict McDavid won't be the first.

He's not a center, he's < 6'1", and he's not Canadian, no way he's ever considered best player in the world. Whether he deserves to be or not.
Very true
Brad Richards in 2006 was the first (not for term, but money, anyway).Ovi?
Not really since Patrick Kane doesn't fit any of those and all season people wouldn't shut up about how is was the best player in the world
I love how many people in the first few pages said "$8 mill is too high" but after seeing him for the first time are now "give him a blank cheque!"
Going by CF, if Calgary gave him $7.3m AAV then that would take them almost to the cap ceiling, and then they could maximize their cap space by putting Smid on LTIR at 5:01pm on Monday, October 11th.

It sounds like a near certainty Smid is going on LTIR.
Can he retire and they just pay him his money to be a scout?
8M for an undersized winger would be brutal, no matter how good he is. playoffs are a different animal..
Don't say this to any Calgary fans.....they ganged up on me like a pack of wolves, for saying the same thing.
