Garry "Grey Cloud" Galley

You're talking about the Oilers-Habs game, right? Got any concrete examples of Galley hating the Habs? Any examples of unwarranted criticism towards the Habs or favoritism towards the opposition?

Just so we're clear, things like Galley criticizing Chiarot's gap control on the first goal doesn't fall into the category of hating or unwarranted criticism.
So I told my wife of 25 years that a guy on the internet wants me to provide some examples of what she specifically didn't like about the announcer last game. Apparently we can both go f*** ourselves.

Sounds a bit like greg millen( I have mixed them up on occasion) the give away is the way he cheers who ever is playing agaist the habs.

I like mike johnson on TSN. Gives a bit of a homer feel to habs game without being super andy brickley/mickey redmond about it.

For commentary I really liked weekes, not sure where he is as I find my NHL interest severely lacking the past 4 years...can't imagine why.

Weekes in on the NHL Network now. He’s another good analyst.

He's a total tool? Same descriptions for every play, same comments. An Ex-Bruin commenting on the Habs? No thanks. I can't say enough, without getting banned, how much he ruins a game for me. I always watch the away broadcast if Galley is on, I hate that pos.

Never liked him as a player, a little weasel, hiding behind everyone, hate his commentary.
Agreed.

I dont watch entire Hab games anymore as it is.

Gary "at the end of the day" Galley makes that much easier

Even just putting aside how you may think he calls the Habs, his voice (especially) and takes are just awful. Don’t get me started on that laugh he does when it’s like a moment where a play or call blows his little mind.

Look, there must be some examples over the years, right? So post some examples! I'll start off by posting a counter-example.

Galley: "Who is the embellishment on, Lekhonen? You cannot... you cannot tell me that that's an embellishment on Lekhonen. That is a terrible call."

Well yeah, there will be some plays that will go against the grain. Thats why I mentioned his overall work, and not every single play.

If he did it all the time, then I would not be questioning whether the bias is intentional, or whether he just can't help himself.

For obvious plays like these, he will not go against the grain. This would be almost like maintaining that the goal went in on saturday after seeing a replay showing that it went off the crossbar.

Galley is the worst. I told my wife last week his days are numbered and will be let go next year or year after, I am rarely wrong on this stuff...

It's not that he hates the Habs, which he obviously does, it's that he is insufferable no matter who he is talking about. Drains enjoyment from the game. I am pretty tolerant but if I feel this way I am sure hundreds of fans have emailed CBC/Sportsnet letting them know they feel the same.

It was the same with Healey who they let go. Stop focusing on the negatives and bringing players and plays down constantly. He should try pointing out the positives and coaching adjustments more often like Mike Johnson does. I am not saying you have to praise the home team, (even though it would be nice from time to time) but you definitely have to have balance. It's ok to drag guys for making stupid mistakes, but he will go on and on about it, then again, and again...

Watching a broadcast is supposed to be fun, and he just makes it not.

Milbury is on another level of bad lol, I honestly forgot about him. He is a moron and certainly still carries the old Bruin culture firmly in his heart, I didn’t know that he was still on tv.

Yes he is still on the air,but now he wears penny-loafers now instead of using them as weapons.

On a mute mode whatever the hockey channels. Talking instead of them. Entertained I'm.

:laugh::laugh:

hilarious

and I agree with the your wifes bashing of Galley.

The only compliment I can think of to give Galley is "Jason York was worse"

Is Galley a fan of the Montreal Canadiens ? What's known is the network he works for isn't . There's always a negative slant towards Montreal .

Shouldn't be surprising it's coming from Leafsnet .

Hes a native of the montreal area. He played for the bruins, and I think I heard him mention before that he cheered the bruins growing up, although I'm not 100% sure of that.

What he has remarked about multiple times was how pumped he was to play the habs, especially when he was a bruin.

The dream would be to have Dan Robertson and MJ/Pouli.

But they're TSN guys. I agree that they'd be the best broadcast team. Dan is probably my favorite pbp guy and Johnson is among my favorite color commentators.

But Galley is on Sportsnet so he does Habs national games on HNIC and other national broadcasts (I think Wednesdays and Sundays for Hometown Hockey).

I dont know. These announcers that think they are comedians are rather brutal to me.

I think Galley is the best of the bunch and I watch every Hab game. I dont like that Johnson guy. Former player and wanna be funny guy. He's awful.

Johnson tries to be a comedian? I dont think so. Sometimes, he gets excited and his tone becomes nerdy, but he scratches deeper than the surface, deeper than most of his peers do.

Favorite call if his was when Emelin hip checked Joe colborne during the third period of that 10-1 game.

Just before it cut to commercial galley says:

"In a 10-1 game, do you make that hit?"

*pause*

"If you're Alexi Emelin, you do"

Summed it up fairly well I thought.
