Refs may not of seen the helmet off as it was behind the net at the time.

Once the goal was scored, pretty hard to overturn that based upon the helmet.

Id say it was what, less than 2 seconds between the helmet off and goal scored, thats fairly immediate.
Who’s eating it if that final shot hits Helly in the head? Who takes the responsibility? The refs? JoMo? Benn?
Ive seen plays called because a strap comes loose. Helly looses his helmet and play goes on? I don’t get it. I though the league cared about protecting its players.

Your gripe should be with the NHL and not the refs this game for this call. I would guess the vast majority of people agree with what you posted but the NHL decided goalie safety doesn't matter to them in this instance. It's ridiculous but just another thing to throw on to the pile of inconsistency within the NHL.
This is the second time this has happened to Helly. A few years back he lost his cage, the opposing team scored and the league counted it. The leagues a joke. I think a stick knocked it off last time.

Edit, I want to say Nashville, maybe someone can confirm or correct me

Best goalie in the league got the back of his head driven into the post...

Yup...

Player safety is paramount...

f*** Toronto's situation room, no player tries to delay a game by running their goalie's head into the goalpost. Whenever the mask is lost the play is dead. How is that even possibly a goal?

f*** Dallas.

f*** Jamie Benn. Dirty...

Welcome back to the lineup Dylan De Melo.

Welcome back to the scoresheet Adam Lowry.

Welcome to the primetime, Cole Perfetti.

Welcome to more permanent roster spots the way you are playing, Jansen Harkins and Mikey Eyssimont.

Welcome to the Norris conversation, Josh Morrissey.

Love the changes Bones made to the lineup tonight.

Love that he was proactive too, not just rolling the lines over. Getting AJF out in a defensive situation in Eyssimont's place gets a big go ahead goal. Thought he was pretty good at reading the situation all night.

Love that he kept his composure when the shit hit the fan, I think that probably resonated with the whole team.

Boys have every reason to celebrate a hard earned undermanned road warrior victory against the best team in the division (2nd best now).

Probably my favourite victory so far this year, this one will stand out for battling adversity to me.

Hope Hellebuyck is ok.

Unless there is an immediate scoring threat (puck was behind the net), the play technically should have been blown dead with the goalies helmet off. Whether Morrissey's actions caused the contact doesn't change the fact that Hellebuyck is down on the ice with his helmet off. If that puck deflects and somehow hits him while he's on the ice because the officials didn't call the play dead there would be hell to pay.

The helmet came off on the other side of the net from the ref....he likely did not see it and was focused on the play.

We can what if everything.

Play was called on ice and no one got hurt.

I think more folks should be taking note of the awful Bowness turtle. That's two games now where it's almost cost us a game. This team is not good enough defensively for that to be effective.
I don't think the Bowness turtle is the plan - if anything that is the Huddy turtle you're seeing there as the boys seem to revert to it when pressured. We've got to be better in those situations, that is very evident.

Refs made the right call according to the rule book. At least it didn't happen in the Stanly Cup final

Morrissey makes it right in OT
What’s the intent of the rule though. I would argue the wording immediate is put in there to reflect and or to deter a goalie from removing his mask to relive pressure “accidentally”.

There was enough time between his helmet removal and the shot for it not to be immediate

and then the ref had the chance of video replay to see his helmet was off, and could have corrected the call with a review of a misplay stoppage...

"When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and... the opposing team has control of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity."

Just saying. I can see the argument. Dallas had control of the play on the man advantage.

I fully agree with the way Bowness closes out leads, it sucks.
Regardless, that’s not the point. what would have happened if that final shot ricocheted or was off target and hit Helly in the head? I’ve seen less blown down.
For a league that promotes player safety they do a shitty job

Benn has always been a greaseball Josh is battling a guy way bigger than him and doesn't even really push him, just leans on him. Benn knew what he was doing and I wager he hits Helle even if Josh makes no contact.
Agreed, Benn didn’t have to lean his body, shoulder and arm to wrap Helly’s head around the post, even with JoMo’s push from behind..
But the failure to stop play with the Helly injury was glaring, as was the failed review.
I hope Bones lodges a formal complaint to the league.
Good grinding at the end..
Looking like Bones is moving lines in the right direction..
Gaining altitude in the standings..
This was a character win..
Nice Essymont and Perfetti on display as well.

Hindsight is 20/20 right? Refs were blowing calls on the ice all game and needed a review just to see the puck hit the netting. I wouldn't be surprised if 4 of them were blind to the goaltender laying face down on the ice with his helmet off.

Or a skate to the face or neck? Or a stick? Someone's going to get hurt really badly.
