Metro's nearly 6 years old now, but sounds like it's cut from the same cloth.

I started it the other day, and I'm only a few hours in, but I got a bit more of a Metro feel than a BoTW for it

Wartales is a fantastic game.

Kind of same vibes, especially the open levels.

STALKER looks great but Exodus is next level with path tracing, STALKER has a lot of Witcher Eurojank goodness.

I'm a big fan of both series. Stalker is definitely a lot more hardcore. It's fully open world. The missions that force you more into a linear area are within facilities. Metro Exodus felt less and less open world in every new area you got into.

Stalker will and can kill you every step of the way. You can be running, not paying attention, and run straight into an anomaly that will mess you up. Mutants are really dangerous. The world is alive around you and it's apparently not even working right. I'm curious to see how they fix it because I think it's already working pretty well. But you won't be surprised to just hear a random gun fight nearby you because someone will be walking by and run into a group of mutants. Or maybe it's a group of bandits against a group of stalkers.

Stalker is also a lot more about exploration. You'll constantly find info about stashes hidden around the world. The best ones will have some great weapons. Every nook and cranny is worth exploring. I was going to an objective marker and ran into a train station of sorts along the way. Figured I might as well explore it and found the best assault rifle I've found so far in the game all because I didn't to explore this random train station,

Since everything is so dangerous, the game is very tense. Mutants will really mess you up. You'll die quick to gun fire. Sometimes you'll be in the middle of the woods and in a panic because you can't even see the enemy shooting at you through all the trees and bushes.

The whole game is meant to be pretty realistic in an apocalyptic setting. You're going to die a lot. You're going to lose a lot of fire fights. You're going to die because you get careless and aren't paying enough attention. You move slowly around the world because you need to in order to survive. If you want to rush through a game, you won't like it. But if you can immerse yourself in the world, it's top notch. The Stalker series, whether it's the original 3 or the newest addition, have the best atmosphere in the gaming industry IMO. I'm loving it so far. I've been waiting 15 years for this sequel and it hasn't disappointed. It would be nice if the optimization was better but I fully expected this going in anyway.

Absolutely incredible. It reminds me of how much fun games used to be and how much modern day games feel like work vs entertainment.

I haven't played all of them but Strider and Streets of Rage 4 are excellent.

Strider was a great metroidvania before the genre got overloaded with mediocrity. There are great new ones but there are so many weak ones, it really hurts the genre.

I beat the main story and the Hearts of Stone DLC in The Witcher 3 for the first time. What an incredible game!

I’ve just made it to Corvo Bianco in Blood and Wine and am blown away by how huge this map is and how impressive it all looks. It’s like a coastal French fairy tale. I’ll be drinking a ton of wine while I finish this game out. There’s like 6 or 7 notice boards too so there’s seemingly a ton to do behind the main quest line.

The Forgotten Wolf Armor is sick. I’m glad I stumbled across that side quest as it’s the most aesthetically pleasing to me. Just found the grandmaster armorer as well and now I’m all leveled up after spending all of my money.

I'm about 40 hours into Metaphor and it's pretty good but I think Infinite Wealth and Rebirth edge it out for me, so far.

I'm about 40 hours into Metaphor and it's pretty good but I think Infinite Wealth and Rebirth edge it out for me, so far.

I honestly didn't even know it was possible. Did you finish the main game? Cause if not I feel like playing Blood and Wine without getting to the end of Wild Hunt is a mistake.

It is indeed possible. You get a Geralt that is equipped to deal with the challenges available in the DLCs.

But i agree that it would feel wrong to play through those stories not using "my" Geralt.

Replaying Cyberpunk 2077 with the DLC and all the updates and wow, this game is now incredible. This is the game that should have shipped. The DLC in particular is brilliant.

Both expansions are top tier but I think Hearts of Stone is my favourite.

At least early on the Metaphor controls feel weirdly tar-like even compared to Persona games, exploration slightly unpleasant if not tedious. Early on the story has also been painfully predictable. Maybe with time those aspects get better, but mixed feelings at first. On the fortunate side the main character is a bit less of an empty canvas, even if still bland.

Decided to give the Legacy of Kain remasters a go since them releasing kind of caused a swell of positivity around these games and i never really encountered them as a kid.

These games, are so god damn and were so ahead of their time they've barely aged outside of a bit of jank like camera/jump wonkiness the odd time. Love the combat too. Feels like a more free form version of early age Z targeting or something similar.

Working my way through Shadow of the Erdtree still. Just beat Messmer which I'm guessing is roughly half way through.

At first, I thought the world was too empty, but I'm starting to appreciate that some. Makes it feel less videogamey when there's not a new cave or item in every nook and cranny. Kind of just experience riding through the world a bit instead of going through with a fine toothed comb.

Bosses are the same good/bad as the main game. Challenging and cool looking, but absolutely relentless, crazy fast, hit really hard, string together long combos that will kill you almost regardless of your level.

I've leveled up a few of the new weapons and tried them out, but usually go back to my trusty katana when shit gets real.

I remember the opening to Blood & Wine being such a shock to me, I had done no research or anything and it felt like a second game, plus the opening set piece (IIRC) was pretty awesome. It won Game of the Year as a DLC so I guess we're not alone in loving it.

Honestly it was such a great way to cap off Geralt that I am happy he's staying retired. I just bought it for my Nephew on his new gaming PC and ended up restarting the whole game myself, this time I will reject my completion-ist urges so I don't tap out in Skillige.

(I've only ever completed it twice, one with no DLC & a second time with both. Two other starts have ended early into Skillige as I can't resist the ? even though I know they are mostly just loot I don't need).

I just fully renovated Corvo Bianco. Now I’m running around getting all the “?” and the notice boards. There’s so many! This is a huge chunk of extra game. I think I’ll do all the secondary quests and Witcher contracts before I finish the main story.
