Games tonight affecting Sens

It would be nice to win, but ultimately, as I explained in the post from a few days ago, the games against the teams we are battling for a playoff spot are significantly more important. I don't see this game moving the dial much either way. The games against NYR and DET are coming up and are critical, those ones are basically must win. Let's hope we can get at least a point tonight.

It's true that the Blackhawks always give us fits but need to go in there, wake the f*** up (looking at you Batherson, Perron, Norris) and take care of business.

Wow thank god they’re really committed to Swayman. Ironically if they’d play korpisalo more often they’d probably be ahead of us now.

Nsh 5
Bos 3
8mins to go
Doubt it. They've played about the same. Korpisalo's save % is only 1 point behind Swayman's, but Korpisalo has had the softer spot starts as the backup.

The real question is where would they be if they still had Ullmark to lean in to. Safe to say they'd be in a playoff spot right now imo.

They're playing one of the worst teams in the league. No excuses. I agree in general, but just the same, losses to bottom feeders down the stretch can be crippling even though they're not 4 point games.

I completely disagree. Tonight is more important for a few reasons. We're the clear favorite. The team is still a little bit fragile and tentative from that 5 game loss streak. With a win tonight, the team is feeling good and has a good chance against NYR and Detroit, which are much harder games. With a win tonight, if we lose one of those two NYR/Detroit games (which is the likeliest outcome), we're still in the hunt. With a loss against Chicago, those two games could potentially be season ending.

We had a similar game in Chicago at a similar point in the season two years ago when we were one point out of a playoff spot. That loss was the literal turning point of that season.

No doubt. For the games against other wildcard contenders to matter, you have to stay within 2-4 pts of them. You can't be losing to Chicago.

Hughes is out for the season. Rangers could catch up to them and push NJ into the wildcard race.
I would think Clb is the bigger threat to push NJD into the wildcard race, but it doesn't really matter from our perspective because NJD in the wild card race just means an extra spot opened up (though only available to Metro teams)

I could see NJD going after a big name tomorrow though, so I wouldn't count them out just yet.

In terms of our playoff chances, the games against the teams we're competing against are effectively worth double versus the games against teams we aren't competing against. That's what I'm saying.
