While Betman did give them a headstart, kudos to Vegas management team to sustain that momentum
They are utterly ruthless. They have one goal, to ice an winning team that wants to win the cup
Nothing else

They took chances in players with so called attitude and injuries that other teams wouldn't. Eichel. Who led the team in scoring in playoffs
They went out got Pietreangelo and Hanifin

Walked away from Marchessault when he was their all time leading scorer. It was time to move on

Brad McCrimmon is a heck of a gm and hockey mind.
That's why I was drawn to the team as a fan. This game aside, as I assumed Leafs would lose, they make the right decisions.

The Leafs are akin to an old Crown corporation. Everyone wants to work there for the big salary, the perks, the health benefits and fat pension. Come in an hour late, no problem. Leave early because you have things to do and take Friday off, "see you on Monday Bob".

Vegas was run like a new IPO and they needed to draw attention to their business, build a model, adapt with the restrictions and regulations around them, in this case "a salary cap". Yes, they exploited the injury reserve and Tampa took it to the next level. If you can't beat them join them, but I digress.

Ultimately it comes down to an honest, sober assessment of their business (the players) and operating as if making wrong decisions (on contracts and personnel_, becoming a losing team, is going to cost you plenty of customers. Customers you worked so hard to attract in the first place and who keep you profitable.

They;ve HAD to work hard being a new team in the middle of a town that knew nothing about hockey. Whereas a monkey could run the Leafs and make hand over fist. That monkey can't build a S.C team though.

I remember Ron Maclean saying quite incorrectly that he couldnt see Vegas succeeding as a sports franchise. Well, their ownership has been objective and decisive since their inception. It is how the Leafs should model their decision making.
