That's a upset given some of the brand power in that mix.

A well deserved upset to be fair, but still woah.

Well, hats off to Geoff. He finally pulled off an all-time show that'll rank amongst the best ever. Just a ridiculous amount of mind-blowing reveals.

I thought it was boring as hell. BO6 was probably the only nominated game I've played. None of the trailers/reveal were my cup of the tea really. Waldorf & Satler and Sami Järvi's presentation were the best bits.

The show was okay.

The Outer Worlds 2 was the highlight for me and it certainly looks like a sequel to The Outer Worlds. Was not expecting this to come out next year and apparently its now coming to PS5 too. Obsidian is having a big 2025 with this and Avowed.

The Sonic Racing games are always fun kart racers so I was happy with that announcement.

The Witcher 4 trailer was good to see, I don't care about the game personally but I want to see it come out so the team can move on to the new Cyberpunk game. It was also funny to see them specify that the cinematic was rendered using an unannounced RTX graphics card lol

Crimson Desert looks like it could be fun and the FF7 Rebirth and Last of Us 2 PC ports were also nice to see.

None of the other trailers or announcements did anything for me aside from maybe the Okami sequel.

I thought the show started out like it could possibly be a big one (Witcher 4, more Elden Ring so soon, Outer Worlds 2, and the next Fumito Ueda thing seem like a pretty a big way to start things off), but ended up about as boring and uninteresting as these things normally are.

Everybody remember to check in on the Dino Crisis fans in your life. They're probably not doing great after Onimusha and Okami got brought back from the dead.

we got a dino game revival, just not the one we were expecting. Was surprised to see Turok.

I loved Astrobot so, I'm glad it won, and it's cool the day after winning they added a new update which added more bots.

I do think Astrobot winning does send a good message to the industry. Yes, Sony has won Game of the Year before, and almost always has one nominated, but they follow the formula of big cinematic 3rd person action/adventure or shooter. I think a smaller project that took 3 years to make, doesn't rely on lifelike graphics, massive cut-scenes, or much of a story at all. Just a great gameplay loop. While, I want Sony's big teams to continue to make their big AAA budget games, I do hope this encourages them to take more risks that don't just mean a GAAS push. Astrobot and Helldivers II, and previously Returnal added some diversity to their 1st and 2nd party line-up. Maybe next they can try a great 2d platformer or Metroidvania. Outside of Rockstar, Sony seems at the top of making these huge cinematic games, but their 1st and 2nd party line-up has lacked diversity for awhile.

The year was fantastic in my eyes. I am an RPG fan and this year was full of great releases. It would have been even more insane if Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 didn't get pushed back to early 2025.

Okay, I've just been fully won over by Balatro. It's my game of the year now over Animal Well. Deceptively simple but just perfectly conceived (and I generally hate card games or anything gambling related).

Haven’t beaten them all, but from what I’ve played:

1. Silent Hill 2
2. Persona 3 Reloaded
3. Metaphor
4. FF7 Rebirth
5. Trails through Daybreak*

*Okay I haven’t played this yet because I’m behind on the series but I adore Trails and it’s gotten a lot of praise so I am 100% sure it should be there

Silent Hill 2 is crazy. I actually feel drained and exhausted after each session, it probably has the best survival horror atmosphere since the original REmake, which I still consider one of the best games of all time. My one criticism is the combat is very repetitive, wish there were less enemies in general. But it still sticks with me more than any other game this year.

Atlus is unstoppable and dropped two classics, I just prefer the setting and feel of Persona 3 over Metaphor but both very good.

FF7 Rebirth is a spectacular, massive effort but just gets a little messy at times. When you’re trying a bunch of stuff not everything is going to hit perfectly. Still a great experience obviously.

For some other highly ranked contenders, don’t have much interest in Astro Bot (If I’m playing a platformer it’s Mario or nothing), Balatro (cards are boring) and Wukong (not a Soulsborne guy)

^not a Soulsborne guy either but Wukong was a blast, not nearly as hard or as punishing on you for dying as a From game.

I'm into the Metaphor epilogue and yea, shit went off the rails in the last few months, IMO. Persona 3 Reload is better, by alot. Love Heismey though.

Metaphor is my personal Game of the Year. Glad that it's been doing well, and that it seems like even the director behind it wouldn't mind turning it into a permanent franchise that lives alongside SMT and Persona.

In the final act, but unless it falls apart, definitely Indiana Jones. Captures the spirit of the original trio perfectly and is so much fun.

Nine Sols and Dungeons of Hinterberg are up there. Nine Sols seems like it fell under the radar. Real Hollow Knight vibes to it.

Might snag Belatro but sounds like it’s addicting and that might not be good lol. Still want to play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Loved the first one.
