I loved Astrobot so, I'm glad it won, and it's cool the day after winning they added a new update which added more bots.
I do think Astrobot winning does send a good message to the industry. Yes, Sony has won Game of the Year before, and almost always has one nominated, but they follow the formula of big cinematic 3rd person action/adventure or shooter. I think a smaller project that took 3 years to make, doesn't rely on lifelike graphics, massive cut-scenes, or much of a story at all. Just a great gameplay loop. While, I want Sony's big teams to continue to make their big AAA budget games, I do hope this encourages them to take more risks that don't just mean a GAAS push. Astrobot and Helldivers II, and previously Returnal added some diversity to their 1st and 2nd party line-up. Maybe next they can try a great 2d platformer or Metroidvania. Outside of Rockstar, Sony seems at the top of making these huge cinematic games, but their 1st and 2nd party line-up has lacked diversity for awhile.
