as bad as Letang was in the first two he was excellent in the third...I liked how once they scored two there wasn't doubt that they would lose, they just had that confidence, skated and attack...still, they need to do something with l3 and L4

Wish the Pens could somehow trade Carter and POJ or something for Garland

GCR
Smith-Malkin-Rakell
O’Connor-Eller-Garland

Still gotta get that bottom six going - even though they are definitely improved defensively so far.

Garland’s name is too close to Granlund so I get PTSD when I see it.

Garland would be an awesome get though.

Pens with cap issues here. Just have to find a way to manage the plugs. Carter, just is so slow. POJ played in the worlds and seemed to go to a better level. I guess not. Yep see what a physical LD can do on the third pairing.

Sullivan is spot-on with this assessment. Probably what has impressed me most so far is how smart of a player Smith is. Terrific offensive instincts, too. He hasn't been blessed with the greatest shot arsenal but he thinks the game like a goal scorer. Definitely something possibly big cooking there between he, Malkin and Raks.

But man... to flip to a less pleasant topic... this bottom six amirite? Holy smokes, boys. I dunno if I'd call it a problem yet. But they look like they might not score a goal all year... as a group. I hate to pile on the guy but DOC especially just ain't it. I dunno how much it'll actually accomplish but I'd at least shuffle that group around a little.

It’s basically Eller on an island every night. Kinda think they should move Acciari up there on the wing.

I mean the teams makeup in the bottom 6 is all defensive base. Everyone knew that coming into the season. Any little offensive talent anyone might offer is negated by their linemates and their offensive abilities, or lack of I should say.

The only hope is when EK is on the ice with them and putting something on the platter for them. We will get some occasional goals but will definitely be leaning on the top 6. A winger who can play the middle 6 and punch in some goals is a definite need and we really don't have that internally.

It's your friendly neighborhood STH (not those other ones) with tonight's in game report!

Keeping it short as I'm tired as heck:

++Ned - I love him as a backup way more than CDS (Sorry Casey)
++ Geno - On fire this year. Love it
+ Line 1 scoring, looking great in the third period
+PP - I'm not sure I'm watching the Pens. What is all this movement? These are chances? Is this real life?
+EK - The more I watch him, the more I'm amazed just how good he is. Its magic to watch
+ PK - Looks strong this year, love the energy
+ - The fixed the issues with the sound system. Much more pleasant experience this time around

- Back to backs.
- Second period - Just going to forget about this one here
- Graves - I still love the Graves signing, I think he's just taking some time to get used to the system. Not worried. Yet.
- Geno/Smith Haters who come into every thread and keep trying to say they aren't "it" or their contracts are terrible. Dumbasses
- Carter - Just because

Another happy day box-score and highlight watching. Who knew I’d question the decision to not re-new my package this early…

Anyway - getting nothing from the bottom 6 wont be sustainable, but 5 on 5 so far it seems they’ve only given up 1 goal also, so they need some credit for that.
No cap-space so unless a sufficient rash can be found for Carter, there isn’t much else to do there than hope someone takes a positive step, including those not currently in the team. Tough to expect with no C able to drive play outside our top6 guys though.

NB: nice to see Ned get a hard fought W on his debut. Seemed to win the top6 the time they needed.

I thought Nedeljkovich was tremendous. He looked fantastic. The one off Jake's skate, whatever. Took a laser of a shot to beat him. We could be seeing 2020-2021 Neds this year. Like a couple others on the roster, he has a chip on his shoulder knowing the last couple of seasons weren't his best. I'll be extremely happy if that's what we see moving forward.

While a 5-goal 3rd was great, the game wasn't without issues. The repeated inability to clear was trouble-some as were the penalties. There are certainly some areas to tighten up.
Ya mean you don't miss the spastic, out-of-position, disaster plays that CDJ seemed destined to deliver every night? Yeah, me neither. Ned looks so calm and controlled. Breath of fresh air.
