I meant more leading up to 2014 we finally got through those haunting ass teams on our way to the finals.

I just feel like this team beating Tampa and especially the Isles, that’s the kind of mental wins for a core which can really have them playing as confident as possible.
I don’t get the impression that this NYR gives a shit about tampa at all. They dummied them like 8 times in a row in the regular season and lost a series to them in the same fashion that they lose basically every playoff series ever

Hey Rangers Fans... Canes fan coming here is peace. Hell of a reg season from you guys and no doubt the playoffs will bring things to another level.

Serious question for you all... while totalling getting that you can win the President's Trophy with a win tonight... from just a pure matchup perspective would you rather clinch top spot and face the Washadelphia Pengwings or do you think you would have more of an advantage against the Isles?

Maybe this would have been a more difficult question if BOS/FLA were taking #1 seed and with the #2 the Metro winner would be getting Tampa but just curious on your thoughts.
Personally, I think the Pens are probably the worst match-up for us and Detroit probably the best. Caps are probably #2 in terms of who I'd want to play followed by the Isles and Tampa.

The Isles have been playing better as of late and while I do feel like we would beat them, I also feel like it would be a tough series with above average injury risk. I have no idea if there's any truth to it but I feel like that team loves to take their "pound of flesh" more than other teams.

The Caps would probably play us hard as well but they just seem to be overly reliant on goaltending and lack the talent/depth to stick around.

Detroit has mediocre defense and goaltending which I think can be exploited.

The Pens have Crosby and are pretty good 5v5 if I'm not mistaken. Their goaltending isn't great but still pretty good. Jarry has his moments where he can be tough to beat.

Tampa is weird. They have elite talent but they're not the same squad from a couple years ago...Not as deep and core is older. I could see us winning in 5 or even a sweep but if you play sloppy against them, they can make you pay.

Pens don't have a ton of consistent offensive talent, their D can be greatly exposed, and Jarry is inconsistent. The style they play seems to give the Rangers fits though and the D would have to be a lot better about not allowing guys to get behind them all the time

First of all, Washadelphia Penguings

I NEVER want to face the Piles. They do not belong in New York and to lose to that loser organization is the lowest form of humiliation on planet Earth.

IMO, one game doesn't PROVE anything. A 7-1 thrashing proves they wanted it badly. A 4-3 win or loss, well that could be puck luck, right?
This team has already PROVEN to me, that when we really need a win, they somehow find a way.
Might not always be pretty, but they find a way. They KNOW how to win, most wins (tied?) in the league when trailing at some point, and most wins when trailing, starting the third.(I think)
At home, playing a team with nothing to play for, there's NO excuse to lose. Play hard, like teams have played desperate vs us. They KNOW what's at stake here, they'll win convincingly.

Let's put it this way, watching Carolina vs Chicago and hoping the Hawks would win, did I really believe they would? No. Carolina KNEW they had to win and did.
Would we prefer that this wasn't in OUR hands? We determine who we play and what position we end up in, nobody but the Rangers. It's all the NY Rangers destiny.

Carolina was losing in the 3rd period to Chicago and won with 2 PP goals and an empty-netter.

Colorado just dropped 4 games against the teams they may face in the playoffs, including being shut out 7-0.

AHA! When the Rangers win with PP goals a lot of people in here say it's no good unless it's 5v5.

:sarcasm:

See this is where I disagree.

Some mid team like the Islanders or Wings, sure. That would be disappointing and might cause me to make a hard assessment of what we have.

We could play our asses off and lose to Carolina, Florida, or Boston. We're not so much better than them if at all.

Anything beyond round 1 is a dice roll.
Well, yeah. At that point it comes down to “will,” which is the whole point of the convo. Whatever team “wants” it more and plays a committed game, will win. Sure, there’s some luck factors and variables that could effect outcome, but all things being equal talent will win if it matches the intensity of its opponent

I do think every round is a dice roll. Just depends on how weighted your dice are. Getting somehow goalied in round one by Lindgren or whatever is just real bad luck.
LOL! We got goalied out of the playoffs last year by a goaltender who is now in the minors, if not out of hockey altogether.

That’s not really true. From Game 3 on, the Devils significantly outplayed the Rangers. The Rangers didn’t drive to the middle, win 1 on 1 puck battles, or match the devils intensity, that’s why they lost. Not because of Schmid.

Right, talent will win. And those teams are just as talented as we are.

The implication that the Rangers are the demonstrative best team and will win if they execute is way off base and setting yourself up for failure.

Colorado has been the most talented team in the league for awhile now and they have one Cup.

Yeah, they kept shooting the puck into his logo.

And lately they're going to shit.

Are they just as talented? Good, then want it more than them and you should win.
