That Caps Goals-For and Goals-Against is making me sick. How can they not be considered Cup favourites. We're in tight against it today.

And yes...I hope the Leafs choke on a half-dozen Penguins goals tonight.

Because they are the Caps and while the Bruins can't seem to beat them somebody else just might in round 2 .

IMO they've had the talent to make a run the last few years and for whatever reason can't get over the hump. I agree the stats this year are ridiculous. But i'm not convinced Ovie can be a Toews, Crosby, Bergie, Doughy type player during the playoffs to just get it done no matter what. You need to lead by example and I'm not sure Ovie is that "team" guy. And you have to have that to win a cup, IMO.

As for today, glad Dobie is playing. Rask needs the rest and will get almost a week off. He's been really solid as of late and I would expect the same today.

Keith Jones and Mike Milbury are watching the same NHL season as the rest of us. And they have come to the same conclusion. It’s a conclusion that might make some Caps boosters nervous, but one that will be argued more and more in the next few days.

“Everything is lined up perfectly for Washington,†Jones said, during NBCSN’s pregame show Wednesday night. “There are no holes. You’d be nuts not to pick the Washington Capitals to come out of the Eastern Conference.â€

“I think the Caps are going to win the Stanley Cup,†Milbury said, one-upping his colleague. “And I’ve said it for some time, and I’m sticking with that.â€

Gulp? Milbury later added to his comments.

“This is Washington’s time,†he said. “Everybody is in sync. They’ve had their pain. They’ve had their experience. They have depth. They have balance. They have goaltending. Now is the time. There are no more excuses.â€

“Alex Ovechkin doesn’t have to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for the Washington Capitals to win the Stanley Cup,†Jones added. “That’s probably the most refreshing thing for Alex Ovechkin. There are other players in that lineup. There are other stars. . . . The team around him is better. They are in a perfect position. You look around the league; there are holes, thre are injuries, and the Capitals have none of that.â€

Shocked that Rask is not playing. This game has large playoff implications potentially so it would make sense to bring out the best. That being said, Cassidy knows this team better than anyone so I'm sure he has his reasons for starting Dobby. A win today without a couple of the Bs best players would be a great way to enter the playoffs.

Die Leafs! Die!

From TSN Ice Chips, Sens may catch a break with the Rangers resting players. Let's see if they capitalize.

"New York Rangers
According to New York Post writer Brett Cyrgalis, head coach Alain Vigneault says forwards Derek Stepan, Rick Nash, Mats Zuccarello and Jesper Fast will not be in the lineup for Saturday afternoon's game vs. the Ottawa Senators. Defencemen Marc Staal and Nick Holden will also not play, but goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will be between the pipes. Defenceman Brady Skjei is expected to be in the lineup."

What are the magic numbers for today's games?

What would result in Boston playing WASH, OTT, or TOR in round 1?

If boston wins or toronto loses a reg game they stay in division . If ottawa beats a rested ranger team they get 2nd. The chances of playing toronto are very very slim .

To simplify it if toronto doesn't get 3 more points than boston we stay in the division and would almost for sure would play ottawa and they will probably get home ice

A Toronto loss or a Boston win locks us in to playing Ottawa.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins in any fashion.

The Ottawa Senators will clinch the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Division:

* If they defeat the New York Rangers in any fashion

OR

* If they get one point against the Rangers AND the Boston Bruins lose to the Washington Capitals in any fashion AND the Toronto Maple Leafs lose to the Penguins in any fashion

OR

* If the Bruins and Maple Leafs each lose in regulation

The New York Islanders are out:

* If they lose to the New Jersey Devils in any fashion

* If Toronto wins in any fashion

* If Toronto gets one point AND the Islanders fail to win in regulation or overtime

The Tampa Bay Lightning (idle) are out:

* If Toronto wins in any fashion

I don't have a good feeling about this game ; $

Leafs facing the penguins tonight who are resting players then playing Columbus tomorrow who is resting players (and no bobrovsky). This is a huge game and I'm nervous. Could easily see leafs winning out and we end up with capitals it we lose today

Shouldn't the 7 million dollar goalie insist on playing in a must win game to avoid the Caps in Round 1?

I am not a Rask hater and his recent play is the reason that the B's clinched a playoff spot. Maybe he tried to talk his way into starting but the optics look bad.

or maybe Cassidy is feeling far more comfortable with Khudobin recently and felt the benefit of giving Rask a ton of rest before round one rather than play him, risk him to injury was the way to go;)

I hope Ovechkin never wins a Cup. Yes, he has talent, and I respect that, but I will never be a fan of his. (This pretty much guarantees the Caps will finally win it all this year. )

Fun fact: in 2007, the league leaders in career points under age 23 were Crosby, Ovechkin, and.... Bergeron.

How does it make sense for the Caps to play their star players? Sure, something can be said for setting the tone against a potential playoff opponent, but it's also pretty risky on their part as well.

I "think" the Caps play tomorrow where they would likely sit some bodies.
