GDT: Game 81: Red Wings at devils 7:30 pm et 4/16/25

How about winning when we were still in it, instead? I'll take that over meaningless victories at the end of the season. Isn't about cheering for losses, it is about where were these wins when it mattered?
What is the point of that logic though? Because they didn't string the wins together in March, they should be ashamed to win now? March is done and over with, they sucked in March. Dont you think its nice to see that they can turn their play around in some capacity, instead of thinking "well we played like ass in March, lets just throw in the towel and keep playing like ass!"

Yeah, it's obvious this team cannot handle playing under pressure. They folded each of the last three seasons when the games counted. They've played well lately because there's nothing to lose and they can play more relaxed hockey without shitting their britches.

No, because lots of teams win at the end of the season when the games mean nothing. It never translates to next season as these players will forget all about it. Look at Buffalo, they won a bunch lately too, it means nothing. Also, want to add a lot of the good teams rest their top guys and have little reason to push their hardest when they know where they are in the standings and are already locked in to a playoff spot, which makes it easier for bad teams to be good right now.

I will also say again, we went on a run at the end of last season too, and it led to nothing this season. Meaningless games are just that, meaningless.

Ill keep saying it, I would much rather have a competitive team that has the willpower to go out strong than a team of absolute losers who doesn't care. Having the ability to still show up and play when all is lost says a lot about individual players and the team itself. Anyone actively cheering for losses or not wanting the team to win is missing a lot of the big picture.
Cool , cheer all you want . Getting good players on this team by any means necessary is the only way you’ll get to achieve the bigger picture

Let me know when a team figures out how to just win whenever they want to.

I think we would’ve made the playoffs the last two seasons if Lalonde just wasn’t our coach to begin with. He probably cost us 10 points, maybe even more between the past 2 seasons.
Yzerman didn’t help this year by some of his moves like letting ghost etc.. go and replacing them with tarasenko etc.. think by keeping those guys and adding Kasper, edvinsson etc.. we get in

It’s time to start relying on the kids more , that’s how we’ll win

Do you really think it would be better to have a team of guys that doesn't care and is okay with losing? The fact they can still bring some effort in "meaningless" games says something about the group. I think you understand what I'm getting at, but you're willingly ignoring the point for the sake of being bitter.

I think it is you ignoring the point of it not mattering at all. Do you really think Mo or Ray, etc, come into camp next season and say "look how we ended last year on a little run, I think we are going to do awesome this year?" It won't be on their mind one way or the other. A team could lose 10 in a row to end the season or win 10 in a row to end the season, and it means nothing with regards to next season. These are competitive pro athletes it isn't surprising that most compete until the end of the season, not some really thing to be proud about. I would think the vast majority of NHL players care about wins or losses at all times as competitive people are wired that way.

What does that have to do with anything? This team does this every year lately. Fade in March-ish.
What does that have to do with anything? You think the team just decides to not want to win any games in March and suddenly want to win again once they're out? They go out there trying to win every game. They aren't a good enough team yet, to be able to stay consistent. But even the powerhouses can't just go out there and win every game if they "put their minds to it."

Fans have a very bizarre outlook, largely because they have zero understanding of what it takes to get to the absolute pinnacle of their craft. They watch these guys just out there playing a game and think that if you're good enough at the game you should just be able to win every time if you want to bad enough. That's simply not how sports at the highest level works.

You are right, we should be happy to see the team in its current state. It is more than alright to be upset with this entire season as there were very few good things that happened to the entire organization. 2-3 prospects had really good seasons in other leagues, and a whole bunch didn't look that great. Ed did well in his first full season, and Kasper did well in the last half, but there is still so much bad stuff going on.

No, I dont think anyone goes in to the next season thinking about the last few games of the previous one. You're willingly ignoring the point, but that's fine. I'm not going to change your mind, we can agree to disagree. I think actively looking for reasons to be annoyed with an entertaining win is an insane way to be a fan of a team. You can keep being a bitter fan, and ill keep enjoying the team to the extent I can.

It's fine to be upset because the team is in a lengthy rebuild. It's all sorts of weird to be upset because the team you're presumably a fan of won a game.

True, I was shocked by how useless Tank is, and how bad the team was trying to implement a system that they weren't talented enough to execute. I stayed Pollyanna for as long as I could. But in the end, this season was this season. I'm well-pleased as a fan, even if sad.

Not mad they won, more so that pointing out that of course they win now, when it means nothing.

You're right, its better to end the season on a huge losing streak leaving the entire team and staff with an awful taste in their mouth for several months all so they can draft 3 spots higher because drafting 10th or 13th is going to make or break this team. Team morale isn't a real thing. The whole team should just roll over and quit as soon as the playoffs are out of reach, nothing better than a group of uncompetitive losers!

You don't think they already have a awful taste in their mouth after March?

If this is something that cheers this team up, we'll then they're literally a bunch of losers.

Compher wasn't even happy to score, this means nothing to these guys. Stop with this awful take please.

I knew we wouldn’t get in the playoffs this year ... they started to change my mind but towards the end I flipped back ... too many useless players on this team

Tarasenko was a flop signing from day 1. Everyone wanted to believe he was the tarasenko of old just like everyone believed compher and copp we’re 2c’s when we signed them. The only thing that will ever turn this team around are the kids so that’s what I take away from this season

Kasper, edvinsson, johansson,Raymond & Seider. Those are the building blocks for the future... Soderblom being a player again and hopefully keeping up with his momentum. Now we bring in the next wave next season and hopefully things keep going up all those the other players I’m not worried about , larkin is the only one who might be here longterm(or at least Until his ntc clause expires)

The kids here and coming will be the ones to end this turdfest

Why do they even show up to play then? If this didn't mean anything at all, there wouldn't be any effort. Even if its just a sense of personal pride, that's something. Do really think they are better off losing?
And no Dad, I will not stop with my "awful take". I appreciate the suggestion though.

Preach, brother, preach! If I had to pick the most important storyline, or maybe the coolest, I would pick the re-emergence of Soderblom. That's just cool.

They've paid professionals and they're expected to try to win games.

The draft is one of the main things that makes American sports so interesting, and surely, the players must be painfully aware of it too. So for them to go out there and win when they've already lost, as a result leaving the team in a worse drafting position. Frankly, it's pathetic, they have already failed miserably and now it seems like wanna put the team in a even worse position.

Honestly, it's selfish players just wanting to pad some stats in the end of the season.

This little winning streak goes back a while, they keep doing it. Michkov sure would've been nice to have on this team.
