GDT: Game 80: Habs vs Leafs, April 12th, 7 PM | CBC, SN, TVAS

Yeah I agree, sounds like an arm wrestling match between St-Louis vs Habs Fans and Demidov to show who's the real boss.

All he has to do is limit his ice time and use him sporadicly when he sees an opportunity. St-Louis lacks of experience as a coach in the NHL with similar situation is really showing here. I'm pretty sure he has anxiety and stress facing this situation right now.

Why wait any further... the faster Demidov can enter the show, the faster he'll be able to adapt. It's not like If we have 20 games remaining. The thing that the coaching staff underestimate is the development curve of 3 NHL games VS only 2 games. A 1 game difference is absolutely huge in this case as the human learning process is exponential in the early phase.

He hasn't even met the team yet. Not to mention the astronomical time difference between Russia and EST.

Okay, the Habs management chose another road for Demidov which is their decision, but there's alot of arguments to be made for him to play against the Leafs and try to accelerate his NHL integration.

Now what if the Habs loses tonight and hasn't clinched the playoff spot yet ? Do you healthy scratch him again and delay his NHL vs the Hurricanes just because the playoffs is not officiel yet, letting him only 1 game for adaptation ? That would be the worst case scenario and not proactive at all.

MSL probably will dress regulars if playoffs still not clinched I imagine.

There's little argument to be made that a 19 year old who just traveled from Russia to Toronto, who hasn't met his teammates yet, let alone had a practice or on ice session with teammates and coaches, to go in and play the second game of a back to back.

He will play Monday. Then being clinched or not clinched by then won't make a difference.

Dobes is in net. That should be interesting.

Pezzetta should come out for Heineman.
Savard sits on a back-to-back for Xhekaj.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - Newhook - Heineman
Anderson - Dvorak - Gallagher
Kapanen - Evans - Armia

Guhle - Carrier
Struble - Hutson
Xhekaj - Matheson

We'll know where things are at by game time tomorrow.

NYI @ Phil, Caps @ CBJ, NYR @ Canes will all be over by 7 PM.

We could clinch with one point, but as of right now, we can clinch with a regulation win.

We need a better start - simple as that. Play hard, play desperate, and play smart.

Go Habs Go!!
Yes - Marty needs to change pairings. Our backend have been atrocious lately.

I mean St Petersburg-Toronto is only a 7 hour time difference, really only takes a couple days to get used to from experience (he's not coming from Vladivostok or anything).

I'd take a nearly-over jet lag and unpracticed Demidov over Armia, Pezzetta, Kapanen, and probably a few others.

We as fans would. A professional coach isn't going to.

He needs to practice with the team first. When is he going to do that?
He can’t do worse than Pezzetta. Also the team probably won’t practice until the end of the regular season, so what’s the point in waiting? Finally, the team will have a few days to practice before the start of the playoffs, so let him get his feet wet before that and then it’s even easier to correct small things in practice afterwards.

To be fair I don’t mind them waiting until Monday that much, but I’m working both evenings Monday and Wednesday and would’ve selfishly wanted to watch him play tonight 😂

As someone who has flown to South Korea on many occasions I remember how difficult the jet lag was and the adjustment takes a good week to make. No way he would be ready to play tonight.
That's an 11 hour time difference vs a 7 though

I like your optimism but Habs will lose that game in the first period. They look exhausted, they need a break or a very bad team. Or both.
They’ve been playing over their heads for awhile now. They aren’t going to get the kind of break they got during the 4 nations so they have to battle threw it. We need to throw Demidov in their to see if we can get some kind of a boost off of him.

It would have been ridiculous for Demidov to play tomorrow. No practice time, not even have the chance to meet with his teammates. No clue why pundits were expecting it.

Heck, I’m not even sure he will play against Chicago. The kid isn’t coming from another NHL team; he’s coming from a league of inferior caliber. He NEVER faced an NHL team and you want to throw him in against a powerhouse like Toronto and not have favourable matchups?
He'll play against Chicago I have no doubt his game management skills are far more advanced than any of the Kids we've tried this season. It's funny to note how Marty's concepts have turned into a dump and flip game down the stretch as he tries to bank points. There is nothing really complicated about the game we are playing currently.

There's a formula to calculate typical recovery of jet lag... # of time zones, East or West... Here it's 5 to 7 days to fully recover. So on Tuesday to Thursday.
