I found a list of basic hockey terms on Reddit and I added pronunciation (in parenthesis) :


pass - пас, или пасуй, или дай пасс depending of form (pas, ili pasooy, ili day pass)

shoot - бросай (brosay)

shot - бросок (brosok)

line change - смена (smyena)

offside - офсайд, вне игры (ofsayd, vnye igri)

to score a goal - забросить шайбу (zabrosit' shayboo)

slap shot - щелчок (hshyelchok)

snap shot -бросок (brosok) - in fact, u can call any shot as бросок

wrist shot - бросок с кистей, кистевой бросок (brosok s kistyey, kistyevoy brosok)

tip-in, redirection - подправление -no such word in normal speach but hockey (podpravlyeniye)

goalie - вратарь (vratar')

dman - защитник (zashshitnik)

I was quite okay at russian when i was young. The cards store owner near my home subscribed to a russian hockey magazine back in the early 90ies and i was a big fan of Bure. I asked my mom to buy me a russian french dictionary and i also had a cyrillic alphabet chart and i was translating (trying to) the articles about Bure. I also had Bure russian cards lol

I noticed they say Shayba a lot= puck. Also adin adin. Which is 1-1.
