they've found their magic again? they have like 2 points combined in 8 games.

I don't really care about pointzzz, if you watch the games, they wreak havoc in the offensive zone, get pucks towards the net, get us some puck possession time, don't make stupid mistakes, and come off the ice. Exactly what I expect out of a fourth line.

Its really odd that most of you want to completely destroy that chemistry, sit Gionta (who brings much needed speed to the line up and plays pretty well out there every game), and most likely replace him with a guy like the invisible Swede known as Jacob Josefson.

Just as sure as DeBoer is playing favorites with Harrold, some of you are playing favorites with guys like Olesz and Josefson, the two least impactful forwards on this club.

Wow, just noticed that. Gotta be the first ever non-sellout Devils Rangers game at The Rock.

WELL DONE DEVILS TICKET OPS!!!!! Great "RIVAL" Game! :handclap:

I was only 1/2 right? Shucks.

Given the typical HFBoards overreaction, I just assumed after 1 win there would be people thinking the Devils would go 74-0 the rest of the way.

ehhhhh calm down mate

more like 73-0-1

They claim it IS a sellout lol (despite it being about fifty fewer people than was announced against the Isles)...new owners = new seat math I guess.

Marty 100% should not start on Tuesday. Cory just had a freakin shutout. this is about winning games, not making franchise players feel good
Not making franchise players happy sets a black eye towards your organization though. Especially if Brodeur has a future in the Devils organization. It's a delicate matter. You either go with the younger, new shiny toy that just did something awesome, or you go with your old faithful toy, just because it's been there for ages. Basically, it's the battle of Woody and Buzz Lightyear all over again. I see the team catering towards appeasing Marty, and it may backfire and make the team have a top 5 pick again.

Oh, but wait, we have to give it up to the NHL. May as well just give up Matteau. Worthless little dirtbag.

Where do you see that? The 16k+ number I posted was the official figure AFAIK.

Announced attendance is 16,592. Devils say that's a sellout. Capacity used to be 17,625.

To my knowledge capacity has not been changed. But we'll see. They had 32 more people for opener and didn't say that was a sellout.

Nice of Tom to update us on the attendance and take jabs at the obvious non-sellout on the heels of the team's first and decisive victory against his Rags. I wish someone without a stupid attitude would write for this team

They don't deserve to be called out or at least questioned for claiming capacity is 1000 seats fewer? Or for saying an attendance more than a thousand under the 'known' sellout level was a sellout?

I think capacity had to have changed. These owners come from Philly. If it's a sellout, it really WAS a sellout at least that's how the Flyers and Sixers operate.

Also I was at the game. Seats were full. Hard to tell with clubs but I saw a ton of people in the lounges. But everywhere else was full. Suites, at least 4 or 5 were empty though.

Okay, so then my question is, where is Gulitti getting this from when he says, "Devils" say? Seems like an instance where it's hard to believe Gulitti is right about this.

On TV, I was thinking it was the lowest attendance I'd ever seen at The Rock for a Devils/Rangers game, which the given figures seem to confirm.

There were big chunks of empty seats in the Lower Level, and not just in the Clubs. The Lower Corners (cancerous pricing) had big chunks of empty seats, and even behind the goals you could visibly see empties. Maybe the cheap seats were full (as expected), but the lowers were in trouble last night at least by Rangers/Devils standards.

My Rangers buddies were saying neither team deserves our money at this point lol

Johnyrocket, you shouldn't make your entire gameplan around building up the confidence of a single 41 year old player that has nowhere to go but down. Marty's a veteran and a pro, he can build his own confidence back up (backup haha) with whatever he is given (probably the second half of back-to-backs, plus the occasional rest for Cory). It is thinking like that, trying to serve the needs of your vets instead of icing the best lineup to win, that got us in this mess with Volch and Harrold and Gionta starting every game and the kids sitting.

That's not my entire gameplan lol, I just don't want them to slip back into losing by having a bummed out Brodeur. I want 2 awesome goalies playing with confidence, that's all. If Marty starts it's next game it's not the end of the world.

Stephen Gionta absolutely should be in the line-up every night, he is a key piece to the 4th line which (like it or not) is very important to this team. CBGB have found their magic again, why ruin that? If there is one guy that Pete loves, its Gionta, and I'm totally fine with that.

As for the talk about Marty sitting, I think everybody here is jumping to conclusions way too quickly. Yes, Brodeur had a bad outing against the Senators and Schneider came in and shut the Rags out. That doesn't mean Schneider is going to start 70 games this year. Marty is still a great goalie who has notoriously bad starts. It would make sense to start Schneider on Tuesday, given that he was in net when NJ got its first win, but I wouldn't have minded if DeBoer went back to Brodeur either.

Here's the thing, you guys scoff at the idea of building Marty's confidence, but its more important than many of you think. When Kovalchuk was on this team and not producing, coaches did everything possible to try to get him going. Brodeur is similarly as important, he may not be the back bone of this team anymore, but ideally, you want him to be confident and ready to step in and play well when called upon. Should he be the starter? It depends on whether his play warrants it, but we'll never know for sure if you don't give the guy a chance to get into some type of rhythm.

Stop making sense! :)

the 73 is all regulation

Only if Cory is starts them all ;)

In all seriousness I'm glad too see the glimpses of good play come together fully this game. I want to see this going forward, goalies, defense and all. It's a team & it's a better team than people are dismissing it as.

No doubt Schneider needs to be the starter, but he's never played a huge load of games in the NHL. Marty needs to play, even if just to ease Schneider into being an NHL #1. Although if Schneider is playing great and Marty isn't getting wins, we may be forced to roll with Schneider non-stop.

He's never played more than 33 games in a season before. It's a huge jump to go from that to playing every single night and being the guy relied on to carry the team.

Chere is saying Schneider is starting in Columbus, so I guess that would be a good thing.

Yup. He is the best goalie on the team. Last night was a very clear demonstration of what we all expected - limited shots on an elite goalie who will make all the saves he has to make.

Until he falters you have to ride him. I love Marty, as we all do, and I suppose it's hard to come to the very obvious realization that he's regressed and isn't the best goalie on this team. But I just don't think this should even be a debate anymore.

Start Cory. He's been brilliant.
