You know, I usually don't agree with IHZ but I'm completely on his side here. We gave up a good Top 6 winger for a piece that may or may not help us 5+ years from now, and we don't have any player who can bring his skill and smarts to the table. Richards flat out has a lesser hand to work with come playoff time, and no team that can only score one way go far. Not that Gaborik is the difference between a 1st round sweep and the Stanley Cup, but he'll probably be the difference between a 1st round sweep and a hard-fought series (or two) .

Any customary guesses on attendance tonight. I'll go 16,600 for the finale

No it's correct. We haven't won consecutive games since March 8/11. What does our 8 game winning streak in January have to do with that?

When you say March 8/11, are you meaning March 8th and 11th of this year? March 8-11 would be the best way to write that. I was thinking you meant March 8, 2011. LOL

The guy has 3 goals in 16 games with LA, how on earth is the "difference" in anything? We weren't going to re-sign him, nor should they have, so they got a 2nd round pick that could turn in to something when our young guys hit their prime. He's not the type that will show up in big games, see the Pitt series earlier in the year. So he would absolutely not have made a bit of difference.

Well i agree with you Gaborik will do more than Frattin, but I will not agree that they are throwaway picks, Boone Jenner was a 2nd round pick. It's not going to help us this year, but we are building for the future with the youngest team and he got what he could for an expensive, aging, injury prone ex-sniper and got, what could turn out to be a nice piece of the championship picture in 4-5 years.

Ryan Murray is injury prone, should we deal him too?

Gaborik isn't just a goal scorer, he can also make plays in transition and complete tape-to-tape passes (god knows how good we're at that) and find players sneaking around... which is why he also has 8 assists with the Kings. His shooting percentage with LA is also well below his career average, so odds are he'll get more goals down the road.

Point is, we gave away a pretty unique offensive player and we'll probably miss having his skillset in the playoffs.

Don't underestimate the Martin Erat curse.

He is a 1.25 PPG player vs the CBJ this year and a .34 PPG player vs the rest of the league.

For his career he has a PPG of .95 vs CBJ and .61 PPG against the rest of the league.

He is the Captain of the CBJ killer team. He is pretty much guaranteed to get a point.

Erat and Duncan Keith are the two I've cursed the most. Throw James Neal in there, Ales Hemskey...

Perhaps we have a different definition of the word consecutive? :help:

Oh wait, does March 8/11 mean March 8th and 11th? When I ready March 8/11, I read it as March 8, 2011. LOL

I read it that way too, lee, at first, so don't feel bad. It wasn't until his follow-up post that I figured it out. Three years seemed like a long time...

Also,
Will you be in 103 tonight, sir? If you are, please feel free to introduce yourself to the middle-age guy with his teenage daughter sitting in the first row on the aisle. (That'd be me, in case you were wondering.)

There are only two CBJ players who have more goals in same period...Johansen (7) and and Dubinsky (4). He certainly would be better feeding passes to Johansen or scoring off passes from Johansen than Frattin. CBJ have to be the only team that can't make room for an All Star Winger and prefer to pay half his salary to go elsewhere so they can ice guys like Boll and Frattin.:shakehead

And it's a loser mentality to just give away those type players for late 2nd round+ picks while well in a playoff hunt. We had 3 first round picks last year, have another 1st round and 2nd round this year. Our farm system looks pretty stocked. Really the worse trade deal I can remember this franchise doing.

You can only get what the market is willing to pay. He didn't work here, it's like you guys didn't watch him play.

Hard to even call it a trade. More like a salary dump.

I posted a month before the trade deadline what he was worth. A 2nd and a depth player and said then it wasn't worth it. Sounds like it's a coaching issue then if you can't make a skill player fit anywhere and we may have longer term issues that will need addressed.

Gaborik was coming from the injury and adjusting to the new team. Now he has 7 points in the last 7 games. In the games I saw he was the most notable LA forward on the ice.

You better compare Anisimov's stats with Gabby on his wing to his stats without him.

You know what would be great? If the Game Day Thread for the final home game, one that's crucial to the Jackets' playoff chances, would devolve into a rehash of every other thread we've had for the last couple months. That'd be great.
