Probably my last game i go see this year @lostabarnacos - the show might suck but i can enjoy a wash-habs game with a russian friend and obviously ovi fan. So lets cheer for some ovi goals in good company.

Yes, people are allowed to have different opinions.. like whether Pineapple belongs on pizza.

Having the opinion that someone being their authentic self, in who they are, and who they love.. is wrong or unnatural, is not an opinion, it's a prejudice. Hating someone because of what they look like, where they are from, their gender identity, their sexual orientation, etc. is not something that should be tolerated or allowed to persist as a difference of opinion.

That being said, I respect Gurianov's decision to not participate because of where he and his family are from and that what is going on there may bring some undue pressure onto his family. Whether or not that's an escapism for simply being homophobic or intolerant, I don't know but I won't judge the guy on it because as MSL we just don't really know their reality and I'm not gonna hate for hate's sake and hope that he's a better person than that.

Is it? We have religious freedom in the west and many religious say homosexuality is a sin? So you are telling people that they must act against their God. (BTW I'm not religious and am in favour of gay marriage from a governmental union pov)

Wear the pride jersey great, don't wear the pride jersey great. Why is it an issue if someone's religious beliefs disagree with your view of the world.

On top of that the pride flag has become a political symbol of a movement that has many different beliefs. If you had asked me to wear a pride item 10 years ago I'd have had no issues but if you asked me to wear it today I'd have to think because of how political parts of the movement have become. And some of the groups it now represents/has represented over the past 10 years.

I'm also a believer in personal choice - even if I don't agree. That being said, context matters here, in the same way Russian and religious players won't wear it for different reasons, the symbolism wearing the jersey is important because of the historical intolerance of professional sports leagues, the machismo and homophobia etc.
There's a lot of cynicism around the gesture because it comes off as tokenism but I think it has to start somewhere, so good on the NHL. and yes, much more needs to be done
