GDT: Game 76: Sharks vs. Kraken 7:00pm NBCSCA

When you take Muk out of the lineup, the blue line is pretty bleak. Ferraro and Liljegren are probably gone by this time next year. Vlasic should be bought out. Thrun is not NHL caliber. Carlsson doesn’t seem NHL caliber either. Thompson doesn’t either. And we have Desharnais signed for next year who hasn’t looked NHL caliber in his games here. Schuldt is definitively not NHL caliber. If we can sign or draft any NHL caliber player, we need them.

This was eventually going to be what happened with this team after the mass trade-off.

Team is very frustrated and Grier has done nothing to alleviate that.

they have also continued to be unlucky with injuries, but then again it does seem bad teams suffer more injuries and chicken-egg questions occur.

Not much he can do after the deadline.
I guess not, but he had to imagine this would happen and this game should be viewed as a cautionary tale that he needs to make strides this offseason or run the risk of the team enduring the same frustrated stagnancy as Chicago.

I think Grier knew exactly what he was doing at the deadline and I don't think he needs a rough game 76 to caution him. I'm sure he'll try to significantly improve this team through trade and FA this summer. Will it work? Is he any good at team building? That remains to be seen, but I think his intention is clear and he has always been clearly directed and logical.

YEah, I'm really questioning his ability to target lotto tickets as he's been basically shutout from finding decent talent for less than nothing. Maybe Emberson. I don't include Walman because I doubt Grier would have taken him without the 2nd attached. I do worry about his ability to find viable complementary pieces when they're ready to take the next step
When you look at the list of all the guys hes added in the past seasons too including Kostin, Lindbom, Kunin, Zadina, G smith, Burroughs, benning, etc and countless others, it's not a pretty list.

Zetterlund was a respectable add, but they threw him away for nothing this year. Granlund turned out better than expected but he was a salary dump along with hoffman and ruuta from pitt as a player we had to take back to dump EK65 who just happened to excel here.

I get that they are rebuilding and finishing deal last is a whole lot better than finishing 6th to last. In that regard, thats good that he is so bad at adding guys.

However, I would feel much better if he showed that he can target guys well in trade and sign well, especially on D. Ceci and walman were both cap moves to get picks. Has grier signed a single UFA Dman who belongs in the NHL?

Eh, we'll see.

Honestly, I'd consider sending down Lund and Graf soon. Let them get back into the swing of things with the Cuda and prepare for the playoffs.
Lund for sure. He needs to season in the A. Although I suppose he is akin to graf last year. He'll start in the A next year, and hopefully excel and come back later in the year.

I think he did too, but I also hope he knows how important this offseason is. It still may be earlyish in the rebuild, but after 2 straight last place finishes and another dose of young talent thrown into the line-up next year, ready or not, the players he specifically targeted for his vision need to start paying dividends for him. They'll probably struggle out of the gate, but if he's true to his word about the sell-off being done, then there's no reason by this time next year the team will start looking at least promising instead of going in the other direction.
