Goalies will tell you that they dont feel the toll of back to back games until a couple days later. Luongo has said playing back to back took a week to fully recover from.

If the habs gain 2 points on the rangers tonight, the answer for me is easy that you start dobes tommorow.

I dont want to be thinking of any other scenario right now but you still need to spot your backup every now and then. The habs already missed an opportunity to do that during the colorado/stl stretch.

is Sportsnet even covering an important Montreal game? I mean the Leafs could be playing the Sharks for a crucial 2 pts tonight

Not to mention that we all know that a tired Monty isn’t a good one. That game off really helped him out.

Yeah, and the habs have really demanded alot from him to be fair. This is the most hes ever played in a season. He never even played these many games in the Q.

Because this team has gone on multiple 5+ game losing streaks. We cannot afford to lose anything. Period.
Just because it’s not a must win doesn’t mean we should not try. It means there’s no point in exhausting our goalie who struggles when he’s overpaid when we have to travel all the way to Nashville right after the game and then come right back.

I agree with what you’re saying for the most part but if the coaches feel like Montembault gives them the best chance to win, then you ride the hot hand. Dobes has been shaky to say the least.

By definition, it's not. If we get a point and the Rangers lose (even in OT), we don't have to win every game remaining.
Next 5 games will be similar to Playoff game 6s, ginal 2 games will be game 7s do or die..

Great experience to test their resolve. Next 7 games are going to shape the entire off season.

A few quick thoughts before the game:

  • I saw the Suzuki toe-drag to Caufield clip this morning and it brought me back to when Caufield first joined the team out of college. For the first time in my life, I felt the Habs had a true offensive star. I felt it more than I ever did for Suzuki or Kotkaniemi at the time. It felt like we finally had that dynamic offensive talent I craved my whole life.
  • A few years later, Caufield has blossomed into a great offensive talent, and the rest of his game has also grown a lot too. But crazy as it sounds, when the Habs are contenders, he might be our 4th or 5th best ofensive player - behind Suzuki, Hutson, Demidov and maybe Slaf. I couldn't have imagined that back in 2021.
  • I liked Suzuki in his first two seasons, but I wasn't sure he'd become a point-per-game center. Now he's on the cusp of achieving that, and honestly, there's a case he's a top-15 (maybe even top-10) center int he league. I was convinced the only way the Habs would ever get a center like that was by picking first overall.
  • On that subject, I remember watching Shane Wright a few times in his draft year and coming away underwhelmed. But the consensus from the amateur scouting community was still that he'd be a top-tier two-way center. I was on vacation in Europe when the Habs won the lottery. I stayed up late to watch and remember telling my wife: "Finally, we'll have a number-one center." When they picked Slaf, I was crushed. Looking back I think they made th eright call.
  • Speaking of Slaf, for the concerns of his eventual offensive upside, an interesting stat: he has 108 points in his first 193 NHL games. Suzuki, who has grown into a top-10 - 15 center in the NHL, had 124 over his first 193. It's a very minimal difference, but Slaf has been doing it while being two years younger. Just some food for thought.

By definition, they aren't must wins. Tonight is a must win if the Rangers win because otherwise they'd overtake our wildcard spot. If we win and they lose, tomorrow is not a must win because either way, we'd still be in a wildcard spot.

Yeah, I'm hoping we win & Rags and Blue Jackets lose. If that happens, we can play Dobes tomorrow night against Nashville.

If we lose, and NYR win, Montembeault might be playing a back-to-back.

I think Dobes goes tomorrow night, as long as NYR don't get 2 points.

NYR are playing right now. It's 0-0 after 1. They were out shot by Devils 11-4.
