GDT: Game 74: Sharks @ Ducks 7:00pm NBCSCA

Yeah, we really miss Zetterlund, 1 point in 11 games with Ottawa.

Some of y'all seriously need to give your heads a shake. We have LITERALLY two NHL forwards over the age of 22 years old. We have LITERALLY three NHL defensemen, and one of them is a 23 year old with 32 NHL games under his belt, and one of them is Mario Ferraro. We have a starting goaltender who will not have an NHL contract next year and a backup goaltender who lost his AHL backup role to an ECHLer.

The Sharks give and shit and Warsofsky gives a shit. It wasn't a week ago that the Sharks outplayed the Leafs. Sometimes kids hit a wall, and vets go through cold streaks. This isn't an effort problem, this is a talent problem.
My only problem is when we have to hear how good Mario Ferraro actually is despite him being a fundamentally flawed Dman. Look at the PP goal - what is he doing? He's not trying to clear the screen. He's not tying up the player to prevent the tip or potential rebound. He just screened his own goalie.

I still don't like the Zetterlund deal. Ostapchuk is not going to be anything, so ultimately they upgraded a 4th to a 2nd for a young third line winger. I don't think that was worth it.

You have no idea that "Ostapchuk is not going to be anything" and 26 years old is not young.

Yeah but with a just a few smart moves Grier can have us pushing for the playoffs next year and we should be going all in
Genuinely can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Did we or did we not learn from Zetterlund's terrible 20 game stretch in 2023 after we acquired him? And he was an older established player than Ostapchuk is. He might be nothing, but I refuse to jump to conclusions after ten games on the fourth line stapled to Barclay f***ing Goodrow.

Mario was trying to box out Colangelo, but he just didn't have the muscle. Georgie didn't track it and everyone else was sort of just standing around.

You: He doesn't need to score to be effective

Also You: SCORING IS EVERYTHING!!!
How exactly does Zetterlund help a team win when he isn't scoring? Does he kill penalties? Win faceoffs? Throw big hits? Drop the gloves? Kill plays defensively at even strength?

Ostapchuk is 6'4" 215, skates well and has heavyweight potential. He doesn't need to score to be something.
Sure, but let's look at his stats:
Takeways per 60 - 0
Hits per 60 - 6.55 (Funnily enough less than Kovalenko who "if he isn't scoring isn't doing anything"). Also less than Zetterlund, Cardwell, Duehr.
Minor penalties taken per 60 - 2.18 (only behind Gregor and Carlsson).

His one good stat - blocked shots.

So, we have a 6'4" 215 pound guy that skates around the ice well and that's about it. Cool.

With Zetterlund, could that be a coaching and/or system issue? Zetterlund was great in the system here (Not that there was much of a bar). Maybe he's not great in Ottawa because doesn't he just have 4th line minutes? Who knows what Zetterlund would have done if he had not been traded.
