The league structures the schedule this way cause during this time of year they do not have to compete with playoff baseball and the NFL season. That's why viewership goes up as the season goes on. There are less things on TV for the league to compete with directly.

On top of that, they want the lead up to the playoffs to be dramatic. More games, more fights for playoff position. Intensity goes up. Makes for better entertainment.

I am not saying I agree with it. I think the games should be evenly spread throughout the year and the All-Star game should be played after the season in conjunction with the Awards show, but the schedule decisions are not arbitrary.

What doesn’t make sense is that the most important seeding games are almost always divisional games, yet they’ve severely decreased the amount of divisional games. Stupid

Meanwhile the morons have us playing only 1 game against the Devils since early January and zero against the Piles since before Christmas. I guess those 2 against Buffalo and 2 against CBJ over the last 9 games are really going to make things interesting. I know scheduling has a lot to do with availability also but it doesn't take away from the fact that they are indeed morons.

You'll get no argument from me here.

With the expansion to a 32nd team, there is a perfect way to make the schedule. 84 game season. The first 32 games of the season are played against your opposing Conference. So the Rangers would play every Western Conference team twice, home and away. The entire rest of the season is played against your Conference. It breaks down nicely to 4 games against each Divisional opponent and 3 games against each in Conference, but not in Division, opponent. 32 + 52 = 84

It gets the majority of travel out of the way in the early part of the season, as well as the less meaningful games out of the way when the league doesn't like to schedule games anyways cause of MLB playoffs and the NFL season.

On top of that, it would turn the second half of the season into an absolute dog fight. Every game is a swing game at that point and because of that, even if you did poorly in the first half, if you get your act together, you can really make up ground. Would help get rid of that stupid "teams that are in on Thanksgiving don't change" stat. I am tired of hearing that crap.

Also, I want Divisional rivalries to come back. I want these teams to hate each other again and play like they remember last game. The league would profit big time.

But we'd miss out on Rangers Yotes in November!
