Ordinarily, I’d agree. Savard has some utility in shot blocking, but outside of that, he’s a pylon. Xhekaj brings a physical edge, knocking heads, etc,.`- lately, he hasn't been much better than Savard in his own zone. At least Savard’s been doing what little he can, blocking shots since the start of this road trip. Xhekaj, on the other hand, didn’t even do his thing - he was practically invisible in the Blues game. Habs could have use him then. A bit of time off might give him a chance to pounder things; he can come back when he's ready to do his thing.

At its root the choice had everything to do with who can play RD and it's not exclusively limited to the two players cited above.

You said a lot of other things that were wrong then and definitively wrong in hindsight.
Oh sure. I’ve been wrong on tons of stuff. But not this.

The ability was there the consistency wasn’t. I said that if he wanted to be called a number one he had to play like it. I said he had the ability but hadn’t done it. I said last season it was time to step up. And in the 2nd half he did
But, welcome aboard the Suzuki bus!
I’ve always been on the Suzuki bus. But if you criticize certain players at all it means you hate them.

Guy has all the tools, just needed more consistency and he’s found it. Awesome.

Now we need a number two.
