GDT: Game 72: Red Wings vs sens 7:00 pm et 3/25725

It will be mistake to trade Larkin. He has great contract and he's capable of carrying team on his shoulders . Instead scratch him for couple of games , let him to heal whatever he has.
Don't remember what was that , but previously he got healthy scratched

I agree that he has a great contract.

Larkin, however, is NOT capable of carrying a team on his shoulders over any length of time. He simply is not, and never has been, a Top-15 center in this league. He is a very good player. He is not a great player.

I do agree that trading him would be a mistake. Teams rarely break even, let alone win, trading away a player like him in this situation.

What I would do, is give the "C" to Seider. Seider brings it every night, and most importantly, isn't damaged by all of the losing and baggage that comes along with Larkin. Being the hometown boy, lifelong Wings fan, enduring 10 years of losing, feeling the pressure of getting the team back to the playoffs... Larkin is clearly traumatized and not handling the situation well now or the past 3 years. He tries to handle it, he wears his heart on his sleeve and the Winged Wheel on his chest, which I very much appreciate, but he's being crushed by the situation. Take that weight off his shoulders and maybe the kid is able to breathe again.

When the rest of the team falls flat and struggles and can't seem to find a rhythm, there's DeBrincat showing up, scoring goals, taking the puck to hard areas, getting into the physical stuff even, busting his ass on the back check, breaking up plays, showing up in scrums, and scoring more goals.

after seeing sens push wings around again i will become critical of yzerman unless he toughens this roster up next season . could have had 'the wrath' here for peanuts instead of several of these useless dmen on roster . and credit to edvinsson for standing up to chucky ! when youve got opponants hunting your players you have to have a counterstrike unit , you cant just allow your team to be chewed away at by more physical teams !!!! notice how tbay didnt win til maroon arrived . for several years it should have been somebody like jeannot on this roster over a veleno or fisher . yzerman forgets how he had probert and shanny riding shotgun
Holy shit I have seen everything now. If deca guard becomes critical of Yzerman….

Damn…this jsut made me sad. How far we have fallen

not long ago Larkin probably was the most important player for USA team. Id rather seat him for couple of games and cut his playing time .he should not play 27 minutes a game.

I like how it's Larkin's fault and not Steve Yzermans...

It's not Larkin/DeBrincats/Lucas Raymonds fault this team sucks beyond them. Go get better players and don't sign multiple players to trash. I don't need to see a 2-4 million dollar signing outside of the organization in UFA for a longtime now. Bring in guys that cost alot, are good, or trade for one that's better.

Dylan Larkin can't fire a coach, and Yzerman drug his leggs into the room to fire him like they didn't even work.

Pretty simple. Collect talent, stop signing multiple players like this is still a 2021 roster. Between Motte/Gustaffson/Tarasenko... Yzerman 'COULD' have gotten better players and didn't, didn't even come close.

Red Wings legitimately might have been better off this offseason signing literally no one outside of Talbot.

If we're trading Larkin, and doing a whole reboot, I don't want Yzerman doing it anymore. Someone else can rebuild his rebuild.
It can be both. Yzerman is a shit GM, I’ve said as much many times. Larkin has shown zero leadership as the captain of the team. Both are big issues.

Game was rough. I thought the first goal was soft and deflating. The difference between Lyon and Ulmark and how that affects their respective teams was clear.

Agree with whoever said there looks like something is wrong with Seider. Part of it might be the mental load, but I don't think he's skating as well. He's not as explosive as he was just a couple of weeks ago. Maybe he's just trying to reel his game in to stay out of the box, maybe the minutes are catching up a bit, maybe it's nagging injury. Who knows, but he doesn't look the same.

Not sure why it took 50 minutes for the Wings to get going. Getting mugged in the 1st and not capitalizing on the special teams I think just killed them. Might have been better to not have the power plays.

Hope we start playing in the first period next game.

Thing is, didn't they have one last night?!?!?! I mean if Watson and Shine can't provide that, what is the point of icing them? But those two never provided that. One got blasted by Klevin and shriveled up the rest of the night, the other had the critical turnover on a stupid play that cost them the game in the end.

The Wings and their "our PP is the enforcer" shtick, works fine when you have one of the best teams in the league. Doesn't work at all when you live in the mushy middle. Time for the org to realize, we can't be afraid to retaliate. Ottawa knows we won't and hence, they continue goon things up and grab Ws against us.

I feel like Yzerman can't win with anyone here.

He needs to move Larkin. That will be an unpopular move with many but there's literally nothing left to do. We've got new players, we've got youngsters playing, we've got a new coach. We've shown we're capable of putting together a winning streak. We can play better. We have played better.

No more mopey, victim, head hanging hockey.
Yzerman can’t win with me because he has done a horrible job in FA. We have way too many absolute plugs making too much money. His goaltending sucks yearly, for a guy that hoards picks he made a ridiculous trade to get rid of at least a fringe top 4 guy in walman. Just makes mistake after mistake and he shouldn’t get a pass because he’s Steve yzerman.

No it doesn't, it was a pathetic sentiment even then, especially when half the time they don't even call a lousy two minute penalty when there's a significant dirty play.

I'd be happy to never hear that nonsense again. You need to be able to handle yourself in this league.

that tackle goal was so bad it was amazing. That a play where you take the ref after the game and show it to him and ask what he was looking at. The puck was right there, The Ottawa player just football tackled a red wing from behind. How could you miss that?

On the topic of missed calls: at the end of the game, about 30 seconds left, a Sens defender rolled over and covered the puck outside of the crease. A few seconds later he shovels it under the goalie. I thought it was a penalty to intentionally cover the puck like that? Or am I misremembering the rule?

I know if he covered it in the crease it should be a penalty shot

Closing your hand over the puck or covering it in the crease is the only way I know he gets in trouble for that.
