Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

same problem last year, leadership group needs to push the team, so much a coach can do.

Building a winning culture within organization hasn't happened in a long time.

Hopefully we can get the right manager to draft players that are dogs and have no quit mentality.

I think the coaching staff is the best we have had in long time. The depth after the first line drops off quite a bit, these kids have to take advantage of the opportunity and step up their game.
So darned disappointing.

Street is the least of our worries. Team has no heart. Their season is on the line and they have no sense of urgency. Just floating out there. And the coach is clueless. Kept running the same plays and seen it wasn’t working, but continued to run them. And he shows no emotion. If the coach doesn’t show emotion how do you expect the players to. At least Street was doing his job. Can’t say the same for the rest of the team. Excluding Musty who is still hurt and Villy who I think is still feeling the effects from that hit on Sunday. He didn’t look like himself last night. Henderson and Clayton had a good game, but that’s about it.
I know I've been a bit of a jackass on here, so i'm extending an olive branch. As a fellow OHL fan I can understand the passion and frustration and want to come in peace here and say that I agree with you on Henderson and Clayton - they've played hard and fast all 3 games.

Wolves need to try something different for the next game. Would like to see them try to split up the "big guns". Musty, Villeneuve and Walton all play best with the puck on their stick. When they stick all three together there's not enough puck to go around. This would also give the wolves more depth to hopefully compete with the Fronts. May not be a better solution, but it's different and at this point they need to try something different.

Molnar - Villeneuve - Pharand
Musty - Clayton - Henderson
Walton - Chitaroni - Coughlan
Dean - Ziliotto - Street

McCoy - DeAngelis
O'Dell - Mews
Blonda - Ewles

I like idea splitting up top line, need to try something different, and may help other lines to score.

Well, it all comes down to Thursday, and I bet the Wolves are going to mail it in.
You have to think there’s off ice issues again. That’s what I suspect and it was confirmed by some younger guys that know some of the team. How else can you explain that performance last night. I knew from the drop of the puck they weren’t anywhere near hungry enough. Really disappointing. Hell they played way better in Kingston. Well I for one wouldn’t mind seeing changes again. Team fizzled badly in the second half and showed zero discipline all year.

As bad as Papineaus work has been, as many players have been underwhelming, it's on the coach to get the team to show up and they've completely failed in that respect.
Ditto! I let him know and I’m pretty sure he heard me. Him and Papineau can say bye bye.

The lack of discipline alone makes me question that. Also Barney has to be held partly accountable for that debacle last night. These kids have played hockey all their lives. The coach has to be able to unite and motivate them. Sure didn’t look like it last night. You can lose a good hard fought game but that wasn’t the case last night. The fact that I left early during a playoff game is an abomination.

Watching tonight’s game it was like the Fronts knew our game plan. The Fronts shut down everything the Wolves tried to do and effectively counter attacked.
Lidos to a great team win K-Town.
Seems to me our “game plan” was simply not to show up. I’d argue any team in the league would have beaten us last night.

Exactly, watched the same game I did. For me Street was the ONLY bright spot in terms of looking like he gave a shit. Came in to edit and add Henderson.

RP gets his last draft upcoming. Dario has to step up to the plate and do what's right going forward. Can't make RP make anymore roster decisions going forward. He's had the job since 2016.
Agree, I'd argue fire today if not Friday morning

Its likely Papineau does the draft and then some kind of resignation is announced once the season if officially over. There will be no firing

Go one more step. Put Marshall in net. Krawchuk does let in early soft goals, Marshall has a better record recently and the team plays better in front of him for some reason.

Also, Delic is back tomorrow

Hope is the “magic ingredient”. No way they win four straight but hell give us one win.

I always felt motivation comes from within. If you can’t get up for game #3 when your already down 2-0, we have bigger problems than the coaches.

Why have a coach then? A coach is a manager of young men more than X and O’s. That’s his main job, getting them united and getting the very best out of them. You remember Ted Nolan? His players were always motivated and would go through a wall for him. Barney has a way to go before making me a true believer. Discipline alone is reason enough and doesn’t seem to get talked about enough. It speaks to accountability. They all seem to be talking the talk about brotherhood etc. Talk is cheap, let’s see them walk the walk.

I really wonder what's going on behind the scenes, because this team played like a completely different team in the first half of the season.

Sudbury announcer says Kingston outmuscling and out hustling wolves and not sure why fans are chanting ref you suck.

Love it.
They’ve been doing that in Flint too much lately too. I get it when there’s a bunch of atrocious calls but sometimes I’m just like “No folks, he actually hooked him there. That’s a good call.” There’s plenty of bad reffing to go around in this league. No need to boo correct calls.

I hope Delic is actually 100% healthy if he's playing. I wish Musty was 100%, but certainly is not playing that way. Who knows whether Mews and/or Villy are back or not next year. Whatever. But show up and play. Don't end your junior careers with a sweep that ends in your own barn. I would think (hope) losing tomorrow should burn a life long memory in your brain of how you gave up on yourself and your team. It's time to show up for your own pride. Light it up!

Agree that as well as Krawchuk has played, I would still give Marshall the net.

And yes, dump Papineau. I honestly wonder if he 'talked' to the team between Game 2&3. That performance was abysmal.

Again a young guy that seems to know some of the guys said there are issues. Sure seemed liked something was off. In fact reminded me of the disastrous seventh game against St Mikes when the team quit on the coach. Really hope they show some pride tomorrow.
