Honestly games like this give us the exact data we need about the layers we need to address our team moving forward. The D around the net has been exhaustingly discussed, but what exacerbates that is that the team as a whole, from top to bottom is not fast enough to anticipate and win races to pucks, so we rarely get to dictate the paces. Is this against all teams? No, but is this an issue when facing the true top contenders? I’d say more often than not. Honestly I’m not even mad at what we’re watching now, because our team developmentally isn’t at the stage to CONSISTENTLY face teams like Colorado when things get tight such as toward the end of the season. But make no mistake, if Yzerman doesn’t address this moving forward over the next 2-3 years then there is something wrong.
