GDT: GAME 70 | Senators @ Sabres | The Prodigal Son Returns Edition | Tue Mar 25 2025, 7PM | TSN5, RDS2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Brady is clearly injured, even though tonight he had more jump. Stutzle can't shoot at all. Who knows how healthy Jensen is. These add up to a team that is missing some bite right now.

Hamonic over Matinpalo, and him having more ice time than Zub may also be explained by the fact that Zub may not be 100% and Green somehow feels that if Zub or Jensen re-aggravates his injury it's better to have Hamonic cover those minutes.

Don't know how healthy Ullmark is that they decided to rest him for this game. This might explain why Forsberg isn't waived, cause if we lose him on waivers and we lose Ullmark to injury we're down to Merilainen and... Malcolm Subban.

So yeah, injuries can explain some of the coaching decisions and the kind of play we see on the ice. Doesn't make things any less frustrating.

Easier to score when there’s no pressure and nothing is expected of you
Except the team plays better when they're fighting for their playoff lives. Right now, there's no pressure because they have such a big buffer with so few games remaining.

Besides, we were by far the better team tonight:

Losing sucks, especially against a team that we should beat. The effort was there, Reimer was good. We couldn't capitalize on our chances. The second goal on Forsberg was rough. After the 3rd goal, he made some big saves.

Fortunately we didn't lose any ground in our hunt for the playoffs, pending what happens in the Rangers game. A win against the Wings on Thursday and all will be right again. The sky isn't falling.
Exactly this.

The same people who were super upset that we got dominated, but won the game against Detroit are upset again tonight that we dominated Buffalo but lost the game. Absolute hypocrisy.

I know your schtick is opposing the doom and gloomers and I actually appreciate that, however, this team has yet to earn a playoff spot so you likely should pump the breaks a tad bit.
I'm not going to pump the brakes. We're making the playoffs. Deal with it.

8 years of no playoffs, there should absolutely be pressure. Taking a small buffer for granted will bite you in the ass especially when there are other teams chasing.

I’d be perfectly happy to deal with playoffs but we aren’t quite there yet. You do you and keep the tires rolling then. I’d prefer to deal with absolutes. I’ve learned enough life experiences to not count my chickens before they’ve hatched.

I've also learned enough life experience to not panic over every little thing.

Cons:
-Brady is hurt and floating. He had short bursts that result in a hit or a good pass, but he's a step behind. Yes he scored but bloody hell I hope he doesn't have something major.

-Watching Hamonic irl was even more painful, dude is next level slow.

-Stu needs to shoot. He can deke and dangle, but his shot is sorely needed.

Pros:
-Border crossing took 90 seconds. Only issue was the USA agent raising hjs eyebrows when we said we're sens fans and the CBSA agent laughing at us cuz he was a Leafs fan.

-Buffalo's dead ass arena makes me appreciate CTC and our fanbase. Can't wait to see a game in Ottawa again.

-Zetterlund is tenacious on the puck and it's only a matter of time until he scores.

-Team defense wasn't bad, didn't let the slugs shoot too much.

How do we dominate the Leafs and yet completely fall on our ass to the Sabres, and the Habs for that matter.

I bloody hate this team sometimes. That’s 6 (12 all in) points dropped.

On tv it looked like there were quite a few Ottawa fans. How was the turnout in person

Lost 3 of their last 4.

They need a couple wins in a row here. If they lose their next couple games, it will be 5 losses in their last 6 and everyone will be talking about a major collapse and the pressure will be immense.

Ya ya seen these before. Ore 4 nations they were also suffocating teams.

Now they skate around the offensive zone a bunch and then are leaky.

We have no shooters and our goalies aren’t great so it doesn’t really matter how much we dominate we are very rarely going to win comfortably

We play Columbus 3 time and they just got Monahan back too. These games won’t be easy.

Detroit will definitely try to play spoiler too. We have a lot of very tough games coming up … more reason why this one was a must win.

I didn’t even do my good and bad.

Good.
Our possession of the puck in the O zone.

Amadio on the fourth line I feel so bad for him having to play with likely 2 of the worst …10 forwards in the NHL?

Zetterlund stutzle tkatchuk as a line that can tilt the ice. Even though none of the three can really shoot I do believe that when you have the puck the other team is rarely going to score.

Bad.
Was any defenceman good? They’re all a disaster lately

What we actually DO with the possession we have. Lots of skating on the perimeter. Easy shots for the goalie. No game breaker to embarrass a guy and snipe.

Soft defensive play from everyone not just our d men. If you let a team be dangerous every time they enter your zone it doesn’t matter if they only enter your zone 5 times. You’re likely going to lose.

Hamonic ibviously.

Kleven. I mean. His numbers with Hamonic bad his numbers with matinpalo alledgedly bad but that certainly didn’t match the eye test. His numbers with jbd bad. Maybe Kleven is a problem himself

Forsberg…not much you can say about this guy. Just a bad goalie who somehow convinced Dorion to give him a monstrosity of a contract. That jbd goal is just comical.

Giroux. Sorry to say. That guy can’t play on the third line with two guys with no hands

Hopeful thoughts:
Our 2021 10th overall pick, 2022 7th overall pick, 2023 12th overall pick and 2024 10th overall pick are all looking like they can come in and be high octane impact players for us next year….

Have any goalies gone through waivers this year?

Makes me wonder why we didn't waive Forsberg and claim another goalie...unless Forsberg is better than all the goalies that went through waivers...or cheaper...
