If the Jets can punch through this adversary in game 7, i believe they will be galvanize and get that experience and feeling that they needed.

A HERO needs to come forward

my bet is Morgan Barron. For this game
That goal being called back due to offside was so deflating too, was such a beautiful goal and he deserved it much like he deserves permanent elevation in the line up.

I have given up on the Jets Hellebuyck thread. Too many homers. If White Out were here, he would certainly give you an earful. At any rate, I will be on the main forums.
I can only assume that you are feeling profoundly betrayed and disappointed by Helle but I wouldn't over-react.

Helle will not go down as the worst playoff goalie ever, despite all the hyperbole and vitriol. In fact, over his first 36 playoff games, spanning 5 seasons (including game 1 vs LV in 22-23) he put up a .921 save%.

Over the ensuing 15 games he has been pretty bad overall, but he would not be the first elite goalie to have a 15 game stretch of poor performance, often a combination of bad lack and then lost confidence.

Don't look to the main boards (or White Out for that matter) for succor in your time of distress--that will just make you more miserable and isolated in the end.

For Helle, it is absolutely essential that the Jets win game 7 and that he plays well, so he has a chance to redeem himself in the next round. Until then, there is nothing to be gained for his most ardent fans to aggressively turn on him.

THE pressure on him is a little different as he is playing to prove he belongs..

The core guys pressure is to deliver…

THAT’s why i picked him. He has a soft touch. Some skills speed and he is a big boy. He can be regular middle 6 guy soon.

Got to go with Hellebuyck. But if he craps the bed again, Chevy will have some soul searching in the off season. This is more than one bad playoffs… this is three in a row.

However, if Hellebuyck can stand on his head and totally shut the door tomorrow, that could be the confidence booster he needs to carry us all the way. Yeah, he talks a big game, but clearly his confidence is shot right now.

So the book on Helle is out, but so few teams have read it that he's won back to back Vezinas and Jennings trophies

Makes total sense lol

Same book as with every goalie. Get in front and screen/deflect/take away his eyes.. It’s nothing unique to Hellebyuck.

What soul searching?? No one in their right mind is moving a 3x Vezina winner who is actually on a reasonable contract. He’s our ride or die for years to come. Winning Cups don’t just happen because you have this player or that player. Playoffs in all sports come down to a handful of games. You’re never a playoff performer until you are; Playoffs are more about perception for most people.

When something isn’t working you change it. Not a hockey thing, but a life thing. What do we have to lose? I would dump #5 and #37. We can do better.
I can only partially agree with my good friend Larmex, and I do agree with dumping # 5 - Schenn.

I just think we hang on to # 37, as he’s the guy who got us here - number 1 overall. He has a mental block on the road in playoff games, he needs to overcome.

If he lets in a couple bad soft goals like ( 2) I’d pull him, and go with Comrie, but so far he’s been ok on home ice. We’ll see what happens.

The game to play Comrie was game 4. It's too late now, it has to be Helle.

You don't want a Joe Morrow for Toby Enstrom debacle.

That’s like marrying the head cheerleader, only to never consummate the marriage lol.

That President’s Trophy Banner celebration will be kinda hollow after a first round exit. But… it ain’t over yet. As I said, if Hellebuyck can stand on his head in this game, it could give him the boost he needs for a long playoff run.

Yes, except some goalies are better at dealing with it than others. During the intermission on SN last night, Dr. Evil ( can't remember the guys real name ) said that he thought Jake Oettinger was the best in the league at being able to see thru screens. Maybe that just something Helly isn't born being good at. Kind of like Helly handling the puck... he's done it his whole life, yet it's still barely adequate.

Anyhow not all the goals that have gone in on him are screens. He's let in some stinkers and whiffed on other chances that he has seen clearly.

This is really it for him this series. He has a chance to completely flip the script on the narrative and deliver his team a great performance. I'm hopping he does it.

Can’t speak for what they were saying but the American broadcasts usually have either Kevin Weekes(who was a solid backup I believe) and King Henrik so seeing their viewpoints are refreshing. Of course I can’t remember much of what they’ve said as I haven’t always been sober lol

Does anyone think that the issue might be that he played too many regular season games?
Not at all.

In 2017-18, Hellebuyck played a career most 67 games, and went on to perform great in the playoffs with a 0.922%. In 2020-21, Hellebuyck played in 45/56 games during the COVID shortened season, but was once again spectacular in the playoffs.

I've noticed Hellebuyck's playoff struggles only started when he was turning 30. It's not like he was terrible in his 20s. This is the reason that I believe that opposing teams in the league have figured a way to get into his head.

At any rate, I pray that Hellebuyck can bounce back, and play clutch for one final time in his Jets career.

In the past, maybe, but not this. IMO, what we are seeing from Helly has nothing to do with fatigue. The last game of the regular season he face 31 shots and had a SV% of 0.968... then it's like a switch was thrown for both him and the team in the wrong way.

Fatigue hasn’t really ever had an effect on his play. The year we went to the conference finals he started 64 games and played in 67. The playoffs he had a .922%

Not over yet obviously but I'm a little confused that the priority for the Jets seems to be Hellebuyck's ego rather than winning

Its not that simple. They've invested 6 more years into him.

Also the team in front has been brutal. I won't deny that he should be making a lot more saves than he is but the team in front doesn't look close to winning.

If it gets worse can they bury him in the minors and sign someone else?

Weird that I'm talking about burying a vezina candidate in the minors but here we are.
