GDT: Game #69 - Jets@Oilers - 7PM - A Celebration Of Life

No wonder they were trying so hard to get him 50 last game.

Oilers day to day is like everyone else’s week to week.
Yeah. I was saying this in the GDT. Looked like they were trying to get him the 50 before parking. My initial take is that its an injury with swelling. Could see how he was trying to stretch it out there and keep limber. Kind of injury where you can still play but once the swelling kicks in forget it.

Godspeed Draisaitl but take the time you need to get healthy. Nothing really at stake now. Oilers either finish first or second and some other guys can carry the club now.

Skinner positive item: In his last 7 starts, he's only had 1 "Really Bad Start" as defined as a start with pct below .850, and that game was actually a win.

Skinner negative item: In his last 7 starts, he's only had 2 "Quality Starts" as defined as a start with pct of .900 or better.

For what it's worth, it feels like he's about to settle into at least average goaltending here looking at his last 5 starts.
  • Montreal he had a solid game and earned the win.
  • Dallas, he was pretty dedent outside a 5 minute stretch where the whole team just shut itself down thinking 5-1 was an easy route to finishing out a win.
  • Buffalo he looked shaky as hell, but he's had worse games and sort of limitted the damage.
  • New Jersey he was actually pretty good other than a 2 minute sequence and there's at least a bit of an argument about how screened he was (either goal on its own I'd have little issue with, I only didn't like that it was 2 shots in a row).
  • Ranger game he was very good especially after the team got the lead in the 3rd.
Subjectively instead of just stats, it feels like he only had one off game in those 5 but still didn't get lit up in that off game and it's very small stretches where things have gone sideways it they did. With solidified defense in front of him now that Ekholm's back, I'm expecting a decent stretch coming up over his final 10 or so starts.

Though if two or more of McDrai, Ekholm and Hyman are out as there are rumors about, then tonight's reasonable to consider as a write off no matter what happens.
Seems like adjusting the "high jump" bar down and saying well that not really bad that jump, just sent the bar flying again.. .850 games, they ain't much, just saying.

I wouldn't even say he was dedent. ;)

Saying he's "had worse games" isn't brimming with confidence either.

Drai should have sat after the injury in the last game. I'm glad it wasn't bad where he was forced to, but still can't take any chances with the MVP. Hopefully he takes a fair amount of time off and comes back ready to destroy in the playoffs.

I'd like to see each goalie game 1 game each down the stretch and whomever has the better numbers starts game 1.

I'm sure the Oilers haven't forgotten the first game of the season. Let's whoop the jets butts in this game! And as a tribute to our friend GingerPapa.

We may not like it but they're not going to shut Leon down for the season when he's at 49 goals.

Not unless the injury is really, really bad and that would be a worse outcome than letting him play.

Nathan MacKinnon, congratulations on the Art Ross, Hart, and Ted Lindsey.

The question is, can Drai hold on for the Rocket?

I like how "doubtful for tonight" immediately turns into "out for the next month" in the minds of Oilers fans lol. Guys, relax, I bet he's back to 100% in a week or so.

Never wanna see guys miss games, but I don't think it's neccessarily a bad thing for Drai to miss a couple here. Gets some other guys to step up, coming off a game where everyone's confidence rocketed up. Maybe this will be the extra push some guys need to find another gear before playoffs.

Just trying to look for some optimism. If or when he shits his pants, I'll be back onto attacking him.

The beat reporter from Winnipeg doesn't think so. Kyle Connor is apparently catching Drai.

Also, I wonder what sorts of penalties we will get if Kane is ready to go before the playoffs..
