Habs fan here,

congrats on the W, solid team you have there, well coached too I gotta say. 5 on 5 play is very good, Was fun to see (well, would have been better had the Habs won!).

Hope you guys keep your playoff spot, always nice to see "new" teams taking part in it.

The only thing I didnt get in the game is, considering you have a group of decent to good forwards and Wiz bullet on the point, how is it possible to have such an atrocious PP ?! :dunno:

Our defensemen have zero offensive skill is why, minus Wiz's shot. They don't have the confidence to one time shots or passes, so they stop the pass, stinkhandle, allow the other team to get on them and goalie shift into place, THEN they try to make a move. They don't get pucks to the net, despite having people in front battling. They are waiting for the slam dunk instead of throwing a ton of pucks at the net and go for the rebounds and garbage goals. it's frustrating as hell to watch.

That's coaching scheme. They're trying to draw players away so as to create shooting and passing lanes. "Here, c'mon, have a tasty looking puck, we're so close to the blueline, alll you have to do is one little poke che-oops too late puck over there now."

The problem is that it ain't workin' so hot right now. I think they may actually be missing Murray for that one.

I actually think it has more to do with puck movement. They don't move the puck fast enough. Watch the good PP units. They move the puck quick and get the box moving and look for holes or open shots. Too many times you end up seeing Horton or Johansen holding the puck on the side wall forever looking for the perfect pass. Hopefully this is something they can get corrected, because if they do make the playoffs, continued PP performance like this will kill them.

I'm surprised Umby got the scratch, and there were some remarks on here that seemed to be critical of Cam. Anyone care to assess how 13 played?

0 of 8 on the powerplay is really bad.

Let's win tomorrow (today).

Cam was flying, had lots of chances, probably more than at any point since before the break.

Better summation than mine. Yeah, they used to be able to get the puck around much more efficiently, but that seems to have faded a tad and I'm not sure why.

And scheme too. Everything seems designed to get a shot from the point and look for a rebound. Lots of fussing about not shooting, but no one's moving. When Johansen or Letestu are on the half wall, they've got nowhere to go with it except back to the point.

I agree, the puck movement is slowed down. And we're also not even trying to do any passing plays down low. Basically our entire powerplay mentality is designed around Wiz, and guys are just passing it around until a lane opens up for the point shot. But if you can't credibly threaten to do something down low then teams have you covered.

(Responding to a stale thread because I've been too busy til now...)

Thanks, mm. I know you like Cam so I assume it's safe to say you'd like to keep him in?

As for the PP thing, this discussion was enlightening. While I love me some point shot goals, the habit of the Jackets to try to set those up over trying anything else has become apparent. Goals off point shots on the PP rely on using the man advantage to get the shooter open, but I'm having a hard time recalling the last time we used the absence of an opposing player to feed a guy who's wide open near the crease. Maybe Horton's first CBJ goal?

This is an old thread by now by now but tonight's PP (Rangers game) was often entirely snuffed out because the guys couldn't even gain the zone, which is another issue

This had a lot more to do with the Rangers than the CBJ. CBJ haven't really had issues with entries at any point this year.
