GDT: Game 67 Red Wings vs knights 1:00 pm et 3/16/25

Saw the highlights.

Hopefully they keep it up.

That Kasper goal was one of the nastiest setups I’ve ever seen tbh. I think Kaner enjoys playing with Kasper.

Props to AlJo too. Mrazek still scares me but good for him. CRAZY his last shutout was actually when he was here prior.

That was a poorly worded stat announcement. His last shutout as a Wing was in 2018. He had 12 in between. Roughly 2 per year.

I can't disagree more.
This was a lucky and scheduled win. They played their 3rd game in 4 nights. We didn't play well at all. We can't win many games playing like this.
Before we scored our 1st we had 2 PPs and 3 odd man rushes and no goals. That's brutal.
I have complained about our odd man rushes for a long time. Do you or anyone else remember when we scored an odd man rush goal? This is on Mclellan. He had to fix this.
He also scratched Berggren who is our best 2nd PP player. He did not get an assist on the 1st goal, but it was definitely Berggren who created that goal.
Mrazek has been our best player last 2 games. The team has to play better. He is not a goalie who can carry them for 10-20 games.

Vegas was definitely weak, but it wasn't a given they would take advantage, and they did. They did a good job keeping the lid on chances against.

What else bad is going to happen? Can't just enjoy the win hey?
No… keeping in mind that a leopard doesn’t change his spots and a really good game doesn’t make a bad acquisition a good one.

He’s played well since joining Detroit. I’ll give him that. I just don’t really care to read “oh he’s so great!” when a game like this happens and then when, not if he gives up half a dozen to Washington how he is a waste.

Shit, maybe I’m wrong and Petr has his head on more straight than it was before.

Nah, he really is the same goalie. Can get hot for 4-5 and be garbage for 5-10. His numbers weren't bad in Chicago just because of Chicago as Soderblom has a .901 vs .890 for Petr. He is still very aggressive in the crease both to his benefit and detriment.

Watching the Canucks/Blackhawks game last night and though I know Chicago's D is bad but they were definitely AHL middle of the pack bad that game

Mrazek being behind our D may still not be the best date, but most definitely better than Chicago's. Maybe ours can be enough for him to do his thing, even if it ain't pretty. You can tell he's happy to be back as he grew his life here

20 points in his last 27 games. That also includes a 6 game pointless streak in that time frame.

And there’s still a significant group of people here crying about us not drafting someone averaging 1.5ppg from the 2022 draft. Which player drafted after Kasper is doing better besides Hutson? We can point to a few players drafted BEFORE Kasper that he looks better than, though. So far it’s looking like a winning pick.

He is not a legit 2c. it is fairly obvious this year that at his best he is a passenger on a line with Kane and Cat. this is not how a legit top6 center looks like.
tell me you dont watch the games without telling me you dont watch the games. kasper has been great on that line. watch his puck retrieval, watch him create space for kane and cat, watch the confidence he has in his own game right now. also as the center of a line with cat and kane, hes being relied on to not only lead the forecheck but he also has to lead the backcheck. hes playing pp and pk. hes 20 and playing on a second line and doesnt look out of place. what in the actual hell are you talking about?

Think we're at week 6 of Petry's 6-8 week projection

"He skated today and got involved in practice for the first time," coach Todd McLellan said after practice. "He's been involved wrestling around in the corners a little bit, but this was his first go at actually being involved in the team. I talked to him after, and he said he felt pretty confident. But is he gonna play in Washington? No, he won't play in Washington. He needs some time.

today i learned that when the wings get worked in the second game of a back to back it means that we suck, but when we work a contender in the second game of their back to back it means that they're tired and we still suck. makes sense
Every day we learn something is a good day. Lucky you.
Just remember to quote the post/er.

However, I think we played slightly better vs the canes, but lost, while we win (big) vs the knights. It is obvious why too.
We played on the road vs the team which is great at home so we lost 3-2. Then we played at home vs a tired team and won.

When you look at the schedule ahead, we will fare under .500 if we don't play better.

Here is what Mclellan has to do.
1. He can't send Holl to kill penalties. It's a guaranteed goal.
2. PK has to be better. This means they have to attack much bigher than waiting at the blue line. It might be too late, but this PK cant continue like this.
3. Odd man rushes have to be better. I can't remember when we scored an odd man rush goal
4. Moving tarasenko to 1st line. Our 3rd and 4th line produce nothing

Mrazek was far better than what I expected.

When that draft class begins to settle I'd be willing to wager that Marco will be the 3rd best player from the draft and he'll be the best playoff performer. It's a great pick and we've only scratched the surface.

And Im shocked about how well Marco's played as a 2nd line center so early in his career.
