Missed the boat on what exactly? A 4th? A 5th?

We don't know, but do you think Hughes turned down any offer that would have tangibly helped the team?
We all have our opinions on what helping the team means. Even pros can get it wrong. If we had a 1st for Chiarot, there was certainly a 2nd up there. And you could have even made it conditional to number of games. Keeping him was not an option. And hearing Hughes talk about the importance of the vet makes me believe that he sees him bigger than he really is.

I have a question... how come Bruins could stay competitive all this time without any bloody rebuild? I mean, granted, their GM wasn't Marc Bergevin, but still. I am jealous. I want a team that I want to to win and not hope for a loss. It's depressing.

Simple- they are committed to excellence, always have been.

I don't think it's at all safe to assume he turned down a 1st or a 2nd.

Everything that has come out since then has shown teams were scared off by his injuries. It was a shitty situation, with pretty much the worst possible timing. Then on top of that you had guys like Klingberg going for a 4th.
