I watched the Ottawa game earlier this week and they got 7 powerplays... literally everything was called...

Then I watch the Wings games where dirty headshots, high sticks and crosschecks apparently aren't penalties... there is no consistency with officiating. It's at an all time low right now

If that were the case I wouldn't mind.

It's the consistency that's the problem -- they favor certain teams and certain players. It could be my inability to fairly evaluate things, partly -- I might see it as worse than it actually is.

But not all of it is my Red Wings homerism. There's something there and it's gross. And I think it has something to do with the Wings' 25 years of success, but I also wonder: How many of the NHL's officials are Canadian? I'm going to guess it's a much higher percentage than that of Canadian players in the NHL.
