Seider was awful tonight. I feel like him being stuck with chiarot is starting to effect his play like it did 2 years ago before they were separated.

Beating a horse here but I'm sick of watching gus on the pp over ed. Wish a reporter with balls would ask todd the reasoning for that.

I agree with the poster above. Is Larkin the right captain for this team? Every year this happens. Ya he had a good first period tonight but then disappeared when things got challenging. Where's the leadership?

Id change lines up tomorrow (unless any trades are made).

Elmer-kasper-raymond
Debrinket-larkin- kane
Lombardi-compher- berg
Motte- ras- teresenko

Ed- Seider
Chiarot- AJ

I really feel like that the Wings outplayed the nameless team for most if the game. The problem is they need more depth.

We outshot them and outplayed them through 35 in, but after we failed to make it 3-1 on the PP, the team collapsed. Raymond has been the biggest disappointment of this losing streak.

I get that it sucks that we have lost 4 in a row right now, but we are still 17-9-2 since Todd took over, which to me is a far better record than our team is. We were way out of the playoff picture, and are still in the hunt, whether we make it or not. It sucks I get it, but reality is we are a 1 line team with questionable goaltending and very questionable blueline.

I try to keep a level head when posting here, but I'm pretty deep in my feelings right now. Getting disgusted with this team repeating the same script for the third year in a row. I said it over this last offseason and I'll say it again: this organization is too cautious and conservative. There's a lack of boldness and risk taking that's going to make or break this rebuild. Hell, you could even argue that the one act of boldness in firing Lalonde was done as cautiously as possible.

The leadership group on the team continues to leave a lot to be desired. No response to the shot on Ed? Or any of the other cheapshots the past 3/4 games (not to mention entire seasons)??? I literally have no faith in this team when the chips are down.

I actually lost confidence in this team long time ago. Even when we were winning I knew we'll have a collapse like this.

Now, watching Veleno, Holl, Tarasenko, Gus in the lineup game after game I'm loosing interest as well. Sad stuff cause Red Wings is the only sport team I follow all my life.

Trade all those scrubs and play those young guys from the Griffins.

My issue with yzerman is holl has been a problem all year, and to a lesser extent so has gus. You use a 2nd to move Walman who just got a FIRST. But you won’t use assets to move guys like holl. If you can’t move them then waive them and bury them. This is a problem that is hampered the team all year and you sat on your ass, infact you moved maata, who actually was serviceable. The pro scouting is terrible and costs us so much.
Yeah I'm with you here. Chiarot proved that he was a mistake within the first six months of signing here. Holl proved that he was a mistake within the first six months of signing here. Petry proved that he was a mistake within the first six months of signing here. Gus proved that he was a mistake within the first six months of signing here.

Get rid of these dudes. They're losers. They lose. They make the team they're on lose. They don't score, and don't contribute to scoring. They don't defend and do contribute to getting scored on. I'm sick of watching them be terrible night in, night out for years and never having a smidgeon of consequence

what expendable players would have value to a contender though?

Kane? Might we get a 2nd rounder for him, from a team that needs to improve their second PP and can afford a glider on their third line?

Would we want to part with Chiarot or Veleno for a 3rd?

No one's giving us anything for Holl, Gustafsson, Tarasenko, Motte. All we'd get is a 2nd for Berggren or Rasmussen and each is worth a little more than that.
I'd happily pay a third to be free of Ben Chiarot.

Would a better captain make Gustafsson, Tarasenko, Holl and Chiarot into elite hockey players? Or are you saying "leadership" but really you're just looking for Larkin to score like McDavid?

I said it over this last offseason and I'll say it again: this organization is too cautious and conservative. There's a lack of boldness and risk taking that's going to make or break this rebuild.
What type of boldness and risk taking are you looking for? Trading Cossa, ASP, Kasper, Danielson, Buchelnikov, Augustine? Larkin+ for Marner? Multiple 1sts for Yanni Gourde? Give some examples.

Personally I think there's some crazy overreactions to this slump. They were bound to regress, and because of how close the race is every loss hurts more. But they simply were NOT going to be the best team in the league for a 50 game stretch. It wasn't happening.

Pretty much. They are on an ~87 point pace right now which has to be considered pretty great considering the rough first few months. They are still just 2 points behind the 1st wildcard.

Larkin has failed every playoff like test that’s ever been put in front of him. Losing the center matchup battle against CBJ is why we miss this year. Losing those games against Washington is what sank us last year. Couldn’t compete head to head against Dylan Strome and whoever the heck you call Columbus #1 both teams with weaker supporting casts and paying their center way less. He gets the nips in march. When the games matter he’ll find a way to lose and the the whole team follows his lead

Two things adding up to this losing streak.

Our stars pretty much died at 4 nations. Larkin and Raymond especially have not be the force they normally are.

Two, it's like the team died in the Shoe. Losing that game they way they did, it's killed any team confidence they had. It's like they have been collectively sulking about it on the ice since.

Went to the game last night and it was pretty lousy outside of the 5-20 minute mark of the 1st period. We got a lot of shots but most of them were off angle perimeter shots. This team passes up so many shot opportunities, especially our defense. Seider is probably the worst perpetrator of this, and when he does shoot he always second guesses it and delays half a second and gets it blocked. They kept track of average shot speed on the scoreboard last night and for like 90% of the night our high was like 80 and most of guys were in the 70s. If the points aren't a legit shot threat it makes it way to easy to shut down cross ice lanes.

So many passes last night were in people's feet. They appeared mentally checked out after they tied it up.

Kasper, Soder and Ed (offensively) were the only guys semi engaged throughout the game last night. Ray continues to be MIA. Larkin had a good 15 minute stretch and then mostly disappeared again.

Kane either does world bending stuff or blatantly gives the puck away. Holl/Gus remains a mess. Lyon does not move East/West very well.

Our PK is incredibly frustrating. These guys are way too passive still and they straight up leave guys untouched in front of the net. Lyon in particular is way to small to expect him to see around guys in front of him. If you are going to play zone you have to be great about getting sticks in passing lanes, skating to outman along the boards, and good at shot blocking. The Wings aren't particularly good at any of those. Wings have a lot of average forwards on D and really none that are great. We could use a great pker or two.

With that said I don't think this play is all that far off from our win streak. The biggest difference is that our goalies were playing really well and have been much more fallible and our PP has come back to earth a bit. This is not a great team 5 on 5.

We are still in the hunt but its going to take a lot of luck and some really strong goalie play for us to get in.

Honestly has to be it. Whether it be Larkin, etc.

Regardless, they all just look… like a bunch of zombies.

I think its a locker room of nice guys. Maybe not a bad chemistry but they lack that killer mentality. I dont doubt Larkin, Ray, Mo, Compher, Copp, Chiarot.. those guys are solid guys that most teams would welcome. Not a single "killer" among them, Mo may get there as he has a lot of grit to him on most nights. They need some snarl, some attitude because when things start going south.. they certainly sulk as a collective unit. Need one a**hole on this team to start infecting the rest, start getting that Detroit vs everyone attitude.
