Tampa Bay shut out at home by the Bruins and there's a noticeable cheer and celebration l from the 'visiting fans'. It's not just us. People love causing a ruckus in an opposing barn.

I also think people need to have realistic expectations.

There aren't 224 great NHL defensemen. He is a 10 minute a night player brought in to add some grit and be a deterrent for some of the behaviour that other teams felt we were too soft to prevent (Hartman on Stutzle, etc).

He is going to probably look bad at times if he ends up out there against Panarin types.
I think he adds toughness and physicality which we are lacking; however, he lacks skills as evidenced by his playing history. I think he will probably be let go or sent to the AHL at end of season.

I hope now people REALLY start believing in this team. Was distressing reading comments throughout here where it was quite often just dumping on your favourite whipping boy, or crying about not showing up in a "must win" game.

This team has been really good for most of the year, the schedule has been brutal, and there have been key injuries which couldn't be addressed properly with the lack of depth left behind by Dorion. There's been a few stinkers along the way, but every team has those, and Ottawa has continued to show perseverance throughout.

This is a playoff team. The must win games are for everybody else trying to keep up now.
Case in point, Tampa was shutout 4-0 by a Boston team that traded away half their team this week

He is not an everyday NHLer. He is a fringe NHLer who may see more games on our team because we are soft and need an enforcer. He brings an element we need. His job is to bring physicality.

So when it's like he got caught on the ice against Panarin, that's more on coaching for losing the matchup than it is on him for not being Scott Stevens. It's like blaming Erik Condra for not finishing on a breakaway because he can't shoot the puck like Ovechkin.

Once you get down to a #6 D in an NHL lineup let alone a #7-8, people need to have realistic expectations. That's all I'm getting at.

Whats even better is I did that while I was still growing, so had to hobble around for half a year before I could get it repaired
Man I’ve been so so so lucky. Zero injuries.

Two seasons ago I had a no contact small strain I was back peddling and my knee did a little jig. I’ve been strapping in a brace ever since as a precaution.

I hope Staios can fix the Ds next season by adding a big tough physical LD or RD next season. I am OK with Kleven and Matinpalo as our 6th and 7th D but I want to add some size back there. Not necessarily a pugilist as I think such a policeman player belongs on the 4th line, not on D. We need 6 competent D on the roster; we can sacrifice one 4th line F to be a policeman pugilist provided that he does not embarrass himself defensively. I expect no goals or assists from such a player.

Ok? Sometimes the best goalies in the world are going to do that to you, I'd never say the PP looks awesome just because we scored fluke goals, got to evaluate it on the merits of the process not the outcome
OK? Sure yes, Shesterkin is good. If you want to have success, sometimes you are going to have to score goals on the PP against good goalies. The NHL is a result oriented business.

Was my kid's first game
He loved it and did mention on the way out how cold the water was in the bathrooms
I didn't catch my breath from laughter till we reached the car

Was so awesome seeing that win. Wish we didn't gift Rangers a point for OT but we really didn't come alive till the 3rd. We seemed to be playing tentative. Gotta be feeling the pressure. Brady looked relieved in his on ice interview

**edit--I forgot to mention new dman #6 was pretty good in his debut. Seemed quietly solid and liked the physicality he brought

I disagree. He was one of the least noticeable players. Look at below. As "passenger" as it gets.

His cap hit is the only thing making it acceptable. The worst part is, even on the PP he isn't doing anything and playing very poorly.

I looked at below and all I saw was one of those stupid stat charts from one of those idiots that try to make a living peddling snake oil.

Its a rite of passage all Sens fans have to go through

Would rather score 4 EV goals, also Greig's goal was scored right after the PP expired, meaning a good PP was necessary to get to that goal.
Sure, even strength goals are good. Getting even strength goals PLUS PP goals is even better.

Yes, Shesterkin is good. I recognize that. Great game & win. I loved it.

Not sure why I’m getting so many negative comments after stating that 0 goals on 5 PP opportunities is not a good result. That seems like a pretty innocuous yet valid statement.

And sometimes we will.

The point I'm making is a pp can be good and not score, or bad and score, i differentiate between the PP scoring and whether the PP was good or not, because much of hockey is bounces that aren't reproducible, like the first goal against shesterkin.

If you want sustainable results the process is just as if not more important than the result.

Anyways, if you thought the PP was bad for no other reason than it didn't score, I'll disagree and move on.

I’m also curious on how much he’ll play e.g., how many games.
