Shocked that Pickard is starting, and in a home game, and now two games in a row. Is something really in the mix?

This is the best news this week so far.

Its a painkiller. heh

I think this is first time all year, Pickard started two in a row. Could be wrong but sure feels like it.

The thing with Pickard is you generally know what you're going to get out of him for the whole 60 mins he plays. He's either going to be "on" and consistently making big saves through the game, or he's Swiss cheese and not a lot in between. Conversely, there is no way to tell when the crater is coming for Skinner. He can start games like shit, then get it together, he can start games great before imploding, etc, etc.

I feel like the team is always on edge with Skinner, but with Pickard there is more often a feel of "he's on we'll be good back there tonight." Skinner is still the better fundamental goalie, and I don't know if it's really even close, but the unpredictability wears on teams.

Eh. Doesnt Skinner have some of the worst fundamentals? Maybe it depends on the definition of fundamentals. His athleticism and mobility have to be one of the worst in the league. I think his puck tracking is inconsistent. He is terrible at moving the puck.

Hes just big and sometimes he "blocks" the puck well.

I think Pickard has much better fundamentals personally. Hes just much smaller.

I'm no goaltending expert though.

To qualify - I'm far from an expert as well.

To my eye, Pickard relies much more on strong reflexes and catching up with the play which isn't as consistent or reliable as skill set as a goalie that takes up net, is quieter and doesn't need to move as much to make a save. Obviously there are other parts of Skinner's game that are killing him (tracking point shots, moving west/east, shots with a shooter bearing down off the wing when bad gaps happen), but I feel like if you were a coach looking for a base skill set to grow a goalie's game off of, you would lean towards Skinner.

Is Gibson playing tonight?

As a poster mentioned- it’s odd that Pickard is getting 2 in a row. I thought it was even more odd he got the call against the canes- in a must win. Using Oilers logic, it’s probably to validate keeping Stuart because Pickard can just take over when Stu f***s up

I think it's the opposite, Skinner's likely at end of the rope.

Streaky with more downs that ups, and has come out of a 2 week break looking completely unprepared and unable to post a single quality start. Also with how cheap Frederic is vs, the cap, they've got space to carry 3 goalies.

It's not like Knob has been singing his praises of recent either, as he more or less called Skinner out after the COL, TB, and FLA games.

I’ll update the goalies in the OP once Anaheim announces a starter.

Edit: Dostal gets the start.

Pickard played well last game. You play well you get the net, what a refreshing idea.

Side note: if we get a goalie it will be Pickard who gets the shaft. He’s solid in a backup role. Should be Skinner leaving but the org doesnt have the stones for that

Pickard is far better at moving puck, handling puck, anticipation, lateral movement, quickness and even despite being smaller flexibility and stretch. Really theres so many things Pickard generally does better fundamentally. Of course pickard will have more leak spots if only due to diminutive size for a goalie today. But that isn't really his fault.

Anyway I called a W with Pickard in net against Carolina so I'll double on that for today.

Draisaitl impersonated Dustin Schwartz phoning Knob telling him Skins can't be found and isn't able to play.

At least half of this post is truthful. ;)

Tells you I'm devious that I thought of this.

ps Don't check the oversize luggage left at the airport. Something might be in there sleeping.
