ChatGPT was not a far away dream a year ago, everyone saw these large language models coming. every big tech company has been working on this stuff for years.

I agree they are useful for the general population now that they've been released, but they are not truly creative, they are just really really really really good parrots.

also FWIW, ChatGPT which everyone is fawning over hasn't been trained on data more recent than 2021:
