That’s the hang up.

If you’re drafting the guy (and you probably have to take multiple shots to connect) then it’s going to take years for him to develop into form.

So what are you accomplishing over the next 2-3 years with McAvoy, Pastrnak, Swayman, and the two Lindholms?

It’s a friggin dead end from a team building standpoint.
Oof, the most depressing part is, is that you're correct.

But! Can always get lucky wherever, never know.

That is sadly the easiest and only likely answer to the question.

First line centers are like a franchise QB. You don't find them on the market because they never go to market. Teams know damn well what they're worth and how hard it is to find one.

Montreal spent the better part of 15 years trying to find one after Koivu, teams like the Jackets and Wild have arguably never had one in their 25 year history. Shit's hard.
Savard and Chara fell into their laps.

It was the early days of the salary cap and teams have figured out how to navigate those types of situations, either locking the guy up or dealing him a year before he hits UFA status.

That, and Savard did have warts when they signed him.

But you ain’t signing a Marc Savard in July these days.

Had commented on a post on the standings watch about the Bruins having the easiest schedule for Wild Card spots, again I ask what team is considered an easy opponent for the Bruins.

So what is it?

Is it simply a lack of talent?

Guys underachieving?

Lack of leadership?
Coaching and conditioning. Lot of guys still skating flat-footed 1-step behind the play, and there isn't enough movement in the offensive zone 5on5 and 5on4 to open up seams. On defense, they just go through the motions. They aren't physical and decide to poke-check instead, but every time they poke-check it isn't with any purpose and feels more like just going through the motions like they are perpetually playing on the PK.

I don’t know how you get one.

There isn’t one available in free agency over the summer.

And you don’t have the trade chips to acquire one.

So what’s the alternative? Deal one of your core pieces? Take a step or two back to take steps forward long term?

Not sure what choice you have.

(Not that that's likely to happen)

Savard and Tavares are the only two guys i can recall in the last 20 years or so of that caliber getting to the market.

2 guys in 20 years. Doesn't bode well for the Bruins.
