TODAY’S GAME- The Bruins host Vegas today in the first of two games between these teams this season and the Golden Knights’ lone visit to TD Garden this year ... The Bruins are 27-23-6 overall this season with an 18-8-3 record on home ice.- The Bruins are playing today their 13th of 17 matinees this season (local time 4:00 pm or earlier) ... They have an 8-2-2 record in afternoon games so far.- The Bruins play today game four of their seven-game February schedule with a game vs. Vegas ... They will follow the 4-Nations break by hosting Anaheim on Feb. 22, Toronto on Feb. 25 and NY Islanders on Feb. 27

MILESTONES APPROACHING- Jeremy Swayman is three wins shy of his 100th NHL win.- Joonas Korpisalo is five games shy of his 300th NHL game.- David Pastrnak is six points short of his 800th NHL point.- Jordan Oesterle is eight games short of his 400th NHL game.

INJURIES- Hampus Lindholm: Lower body (LTIR)

BOSTON vs. VEGAS, LIFETIME SERIES- The Bruins and Golden Knights are meeting for the 13th time in their histories with an 8-2-2 record and a 35-29 scoring advantage in those games.- The Bruins are 4-1-1 vs. Vegas with an 18-16 scoring edge in those six home games.- The Bruins are 3-0-2 in their last five meetings vs. Vegas.

Going today...with no idea what to expect.

My hope is that the Vegas players are thinking of flying home for the Four Nations break after a lengthy road trip and don't have their heads in the game

Bs need to come out focused - how often do we say this- play hard and go into the break on a positive note.

Vegas is 3-4-3 in their last 10, have lost 3 of their last 4. Its their last game of a 4 game road trip heading into the Break. Vegas is barely above 500 on the road 12-11-3, the Bruins are 18-8-3 at home, everything spells a Bruins victory, except they actually have to play the game. and the Bruins pull it out with a 4-1 win Pasta nets a pair, and Bruins acquire Dylan Cozins tomorrow on his 24th Birthday.

Bob Beers said on the radio earlier that I think makes perfect sense. If they have a good win today do you feel better about this team?

I won’t.

No.
They dont stand a legitimate shot to truly compete for a Cup as currently constituted. That should be the focus. How to get back to that in the next few years.

Me neither.

Lived through enough one and done seasons. At one time I would never have wanted them to miss the playoffs. Things change. This isn’t the 80’s or 90’s anymore. This horrible PP in the playoffs? No thanks. Lack of scoring outside of Pasta? No thanks. Do we want to see them make the playoffs just to lose another 4 games? I don’t. See what we can move out and reset. They still have some serious talent in nets, on D and up front, just not enough to be a competitive team now. For some guys a fresh start next year might make all the difference (#91, #28….and especially #1 ready to go right from day one of camp) and a new head coach with all new assistants with the exception of Goalie Bob. Pressure is on Sweeney and Neely now. Let’s hope they don’t blow this so we don’t become the newest version of the Sabres.

Same. I would rather they miss the playoffs for a couple seasons if that meant building a team that could reliably get there and have a chance at a run. This crew I don't believe gets out of the first round, or if by some fortunate turn of events and circumstances they slither through, definitely no the second.

I don't get this line of thought.

What makes that time frame any different in terms of wanting to see your team in the playoffs?

Yep. Sad but true

And who wants to chance playing the Leafs and having them finally beat us with the team we have??? Living in Canada I would either have to cancel my cable or put my foot through the TV to combat the massive Leaf homers that would be inundated with 😂🤪

Again, I don't get it. The best hockey is playoff hockey. Why would you want your team to miss it even once, let alone for a couple of seasons?

It's only the best if your team isn't shit and getting beaten from pillar to post and sent home after four games. If missing is in service to building something better? I'm good with that. I'd rather they miss the playoffs by (partial) design to retool than to miss trying to get in and wasting assets to do it.

What I don't want is to see as a fan is the team plodding along the next few seasons in bubble mediocrity until the bottom finally falls out.

Let me add a thought: I don't think a re-tool is definitively giving up on the playoffs, just that getting in is not the main goal. Of course we hope the during the retool of a couple seasons or so that team does manage to get in, but it's a different look and feel than status quo with some depth adds trying to keep the band together, no?

All three hosts said no
Plus Bob Beers mailman said "no" as well.

I just see myself and others not so much looking forward to today's games and upcoming games.... we're looking for change, the future.

We win, fine. We lose, whatever. If we make the playoffs, we're out in 5. If miss the playoffs it's not surprising. The Foreword to the story of this season describes disaster.

For the last few years and the bad signings buddies would contact me and say:

Hey..you guys signed Rick Nash!!!
Me: Why?!
Hey...you guys signed David Backes!
Me: Why?!
Hey ...you guys signed Elias Lindholm!
Me: Uuuuugh! Serenity now!!!

I personally don’t want the season to end on game 82 and then spend every day until October watching this list and media outlets for news that we have made some monster trade - only to find out we didn’t. Even a first round pick rarely means an instant roster player. It is more like a 3 year investment that may or may not payoff. I would rather Elias Lindholm play like a former 42 goal scorer, have Coyle get back into his 25 goal form, schedule a wake up call for Zacha’s goal scoring, and have Carlo play better d. That is not all, but it is a start. I would pay cash money if they would quit the pp entry that either stops momentum by dropping the puck back on the entry, or tries to give the puck to a guy standing still just inside the blue line. Also, you can’t play a pp with your faces pinned to the boards. Control the puck and move it.

Just having to name so many things here to even make playoffs shows how flawed this roster really is.I will always hope they win but man o man it's ugly.
