GDT: GAME 56 | Senators @ Panthers | Highmore on Life Edition | Sat Feb 8 2025, 7PM | CITY, SN ONE, TVAS

I will not stand for this stutzle slander crying because he doesn't match up against barkov is crazy. He just turned 23 he's got a lot of growing to do yet, and barkov is top 5 center in the league. Stop crying and be happy that even though they're not winning they're still playing in meaningful games
in 2018, at the young age of 22, Barkov won the Lady Bing. That is for the best player, with the low penalty minutes.
2018/2019 at 23, he was an all star.
2020/2021 at age 25, a Selke.

Barkov is widely regarded as one of the best 5-6 players in the league and has been seen that way for 5-6 years. Stutzle has yet to enter that stratosphere.

Both Stutzle and Barkov entered the league on very poor teams, and ones that remained poor for the first 4-5 seasons of their respective careers. Barkov was roughly a +40 and since his plus minus is well over +100. Stutzle is roughly a -50 in his 4-5 years.

Stutzle has some serious catching up to do. And has 1-2 years to bridge what is today, a fairly large gap.

This is the NHL, not health care. You don't wait for a Doctor to be in his prime in his late 30s. You draft a player at 18, you expect him with the big club at 20. At 22 either a star or a JAG.

Gretzky, Orr, Howe, Crosby and a whole crop of players, could have retired at 23 and been well accomplished.

No one in the NHL is still growing at 23. At 23, you are a grizzled veteran and expected to lead. Bobby Orr won his last cup at 23, lead Boston to a final at 24, had 6 Norris'. Crosby had 1 cup, a second final and a bucket full of personal awards. Not to mention an Olympic gold medal.

True, but guys back in the day were done at 30 years old. Paul Maclean never scored less then 30 goals in a season and he got injured at 29 years old and they retired him that year, no contract offers just “your 30 years old you are done.” Scored 34, 36 and 40 goals the previous 3 seasons.

Nothing against stutzle, but 23 isn't that young in hockey terms.

For example, Crosby had 6 seasons under his belt, a cup win, and 4 100 point seasons by the time his 23 year old season was here.

Sure, he's not Crosby, but generally superstar top draft picks forwards are what they are by 23, 5-6 years after being drafted.
Although he hasn't been very good lately, Tim still has 11 points in his last 8 games.
He had a bad stretch of (maybe) 4 or 5 weeks before that, but before that he was on pace for about 100 points.
I'm going to dig into that and post some details on the TS thread (hopefully today).

Someone was arguing previously in the year that Stutzle should be in the Norris conversation!

Barkov is a true number 1 centre, Stutzle is not. Matthew Thachuk is a true number one winger, Brady is not.

The Panthers are truly a playoff team and the Senators are not!
Defensemen award .. Barkov is not winning the Norris either

Oh for sure. That's why i said nothing against stutzle.

My argument was more or less that at 23, and in the league since his first year post draft, he's more or less what he is at this point. He will obviously refine his game with experience, but I wouldn't expect giant leaps and bounds of differences.

Go look at top 10 draft picks who become star players and the strong majority are basically what they are by 23.

I think some of you guys forget barkovs line mates were a prime huberdeau and trochek at 24. Stutzle is playing with gaudette and a step slower g. The odd time brady, I get what you guys are saying but it's crazy to compare just the player and not the environment they're in.

Play against 2 teams that have won 3 of the last 5 Cups and we didn't look too good without our #2 and #3 Cs who also happened to be the hottest producers on our team.

Shocking!

Gee I guess we shouldn't beat any top team ever if we have injuries then. Probably shouldn't have even watched the games really.

No one knows but it clearly by design.

Sanderson looks like he wanted to go but he was just glued to the passing lane.
I don't know if it's by design. During an interview with Pinto for the game with the 2 shorties and 2 penalty shots, he said Baumgartner wanted them to be more aggressive. Norris and Pinto definitely took it to heart, guess the rest of the PK crew weren't paying attention. Those 2 can't come back soon enough.

You actually don’t have to lose every game just cause two guys get hurt

I guess I have more respect for our opponents.

I thought we’d lose all three games and we did.

Time to reset.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I said.

Good take.

Nice of FLA to pump up the shots to help Ullmark's save %.

Stutzle is a #1LW or #2C. Don't think he'll ever match up well against other team's top line 5-5 as a C. Doesn't generate or shutdown enough 5-5.
If I remember correctly, Pinto's line was facing the opponents top line 5v5. Also Norris line if it was a Dzone face-off. You're right about Stu, he needs to be sheltered to be effective 5v5 as C. The year he played wing was when he got 90 pts. Hasn't sniffed that type of production since being moved to C.

Yeah the question mark is getting more bold now.
Hopefully pinto and Norris come back after the break and continue their excellent play.
A shame about cousins.
Gregor should be back also after 4N, can use that speed. Cousins should be back mid to late March so hopefully they're still in the play-off hunt by then.

Exactly... when we lost Norris our odds dropped, when Pinto went down , they dropped some more and they did not start out as favorites to begin with.

It was only a matter of time for Tampa to regain that spot.

We are still in the race to make the playoffs and even though our schedule seems easier with this team you never know we are very capable of losing against teams in our division we believe we should beat.

Lets see what the roster looks like after the break.

re the EMO watching the games post.. its ok to watch.. just don't be a drama queen if we are losing and if we lose. ( PLEASE)

Maybe 5 years of bad coaching stunted his development, here's hoping.
