Two things can be true:

1) The team has not been good today.

2) Skinner has not been good not only today but this season.

Even when the team plays well it’s a crap shoot if they win because who knows if Stu has already let in three goals in the first period.

What big stop has Skinner made tonight?

If he can't make a single big save that's not expected, why are we even paying him? There's 30 guys in the AHL that can do that.
After it was 5-3 he stopped Michkov on a breakaway. He's been crap but had he scored that would've put the game out of reach most likely.

They were entirely different. Hellebuyck didn’t see the shot and was just too slow. Skinner literally just had to not drop to his knees anytime a bit strong man comes near.
Tippet put it upstairs higher and more in tight than McDavid did with Helleybuck

This is decade of darkness level of defensive play. The Avs would put up 10 on this team the way they’re playing.
But that’s the thing it’s not the Avs. I’m not excusing what’s been a terrible effort but every team has some brutal efforts over the course of a long season. It would be nice for once to have a goalie come through for the team that usually bails him out.

if Gibson were in net, no doubt we'd be outshooting them badly and the defense would magically shore up to the point of not giving up 2-0s and breakaways every shift

no doubt in my mind

The Skinner defenders are too much. A goalie can be bad even if he isn't giving up soft goals. They need to make big saves as well.

Imagine a hypothetical situation where we only give up 5 shots every game but they are all breakaways. If the goalie gives up 4 goals every game, he is a bad goalie even though he can't be blamed for any of the goals.

With a better goalie despite the poor defensive play it’s most likely a one goal game. That’s what having a good goalie can do, keep the game close when the team doesn’t have it.

It is not possible to win anything with this level of team effort, team defense, and puck management.

Blame the goalie all you want, but it’s a red herring today. The team is pathetic.

You know what guys I think Skinnee might be better than Hellebuyck. If only we had him in the 4 nations, shutouts every game, he would have been the best in the tournament.

Too bad we have the worst defense in the league and this phenom is being hung out to dry.

I mean the perfect example - how many changes that should have been goals were stopped in the 4 nations finals?

I'd give both Helle and Binner atleast 3 a piece, but it's probably more.
