I have a hard time believing anyone in this fanbase will be happy with Dobson in 3 years. Offensive Defensemen who isn't great at defense for 9mil+ a year for the next 7-8 years.

Once Faulk and Krug are gone, most will need a new whipping boy. Probably CP55, but Dobson would be a candidate if he was acquired.

Snuggerud and Kyrou are different types of players though. They might both play wing, but Kyrou is able to create offense on his own. He elevates the Schenn-Holloway line. We don't know if Snuggerud is able to do that. Without a strong 2C, we need a wing that can create. Holloway looks like he may get there, but he is not at Kyrou's stage yet. Trading for Dobson would be a win soon move. I'd rather trade prospects than an established 1st line wing who can create without a strong C if needed. That may not be possible, but i trade Snuggerrud before Kyrou all day every day

There aren’t any of them that I would say were all his fault, just an accumulation of the fact that at some point you have to make a save to stop the bleeding.

The fourth one is the only one that you just have to shrug and say that it was just bad luck. The first one, I thought he was cheating too far to the shooter when the defenseman was clearly taking the puck carrier. The next two were just from too far out to get beat with so little traffic in front. On the last one, I would certainly have liked to see the defenseman make it harder for the puck carrier to get around him, but he certainly didn’t fight to make the save when his team desperately needed one like he did in the shootout

Again, not really all his fault on any of them, but this was a team you 100% needed to beat on home ice and he did a piss poor job of putting his team in a position to do so. A .750 save percentage on high danger chances is pretty pedestrian for a quality starter and only two of the five shots (the first and fifth goals) were likely categorized as being from high danger areas. He needed to be better. Period.

Yes he does and I at the very least have admitted my problems with Hofer is that he reminds me of a dickhead I use to play with that never took the game seriously and "just having fun man" would ruin the game for everyone else. So what's your problem with Binny that you think he should be magical and make saves that no goalie has any business being able to make?

No one, especially me is saying he should stop everything. But he needs to play better and stopping 75% of the shots against a team with that little offensive talent simply isn’t good enough, particularly in a game you simply have to win, for the team and for the fans.

This is just the same tired bullshit where the backup is inexplicably held to a higher standard than the stater by some, you included. When Hofer is in goal, the conversation is only about how many. Binnington, however, is seemingly immune from criticism and the conversation always ends up being about how he can’t be blamed for most of the goals he lets in.

I completely disagree about Goal #1. If he makes that save it's the Save of the Year. The other four were stoppable from the distance they were shot. Even on the deflection he's positioned too close to the glove-side post which is why he needed to extend his right leg as much as he did for a shot from so far out. That opened up the wickets on the deflection.

I wonder if he's starting to feel the pressure from having Hofer behind him even though Hof has been inconsistent as hell all season long too. Binny's starting to look like Jake Allen did when Binnington was on the rise. I find myself saying the same things I said back when Allen was struggling for us. "The defense could've been better there but you need your goalie to make a save on at least some of these."

He's always been an athletic goaltender but I'm seeing way too much flailing for saves that should be routine and pucks are finding way more holes through him than we're used to seeing. There was one play on a rush a couple weeks ago (I can't remember which game) where the player fired a clapper from above the faceoff circle and Binnington's five hole was so wide open I felt like I was watching a goalie stance from 1992. Luckily the puck wasn't fired low because he would've gotten burned. He's really fighting it right now.

Love Binnington but I'd be lying if I wasn't worried about him getting lit up at 4 Nations and becoming the scapegoat in the Canadian media over the next two weeks.

I don’t know if it’s because he’s hearing footsteps or overcompensating for something Father Time is taking away, but he used to be so much quieter and conservative in his movements and now he’s frequently sliding out of position like Allen used to.

Allen was struggling before Binnington was on the rise. Allen's struggles are why we called up Binnington. Allen was struggling, Johnson was awful. So we waived Johnson. Had Husso not been hurt, we might have called him up instead. Its not like Binnington was the heir apparent at that point. Nobody was thinking he was the guy. We just needed someone else. He then took control of things. But its not like Allen was sucking because he was looking over his shoulder at Binnington because he knew Binner was coming. If you are worried about the 4th guy on your depth chart as an NHL starter, just retire right then.

Binnington was an AHL All Star. He may not have been the 'heir apparent' but he was getting much more attention than you seem to remember. Jake knew his days could be numbered, whether it was Husso or Binnington behind him. These guys are in camp together. They know what's coming up the pipeline.

Yes. He's having to make desperation saves on shots where he shouldn't need to be making desperation saves. The game looks very difficult for him right now.

Immune from criticism? Save percentage without context is just as meaningless as +/-. It doesn't matter if it's a last place team or a first place team. If you give up prime scoring chances, 2-on-1s, etc no goalie is going to have good numbers. I'm not going back to break down every goal to see if Binner was an inch out of position or not but watching the game I didn't feel like he had a chance on most of those goals. And he actually won the game for us in the shootout so what are people complaining about?

I said what I said. Go back to any GDT this season where we gave up 3 or more goals. If Hofer was in net, all you will see is that we gave up too many goals and “Hofer sucks” from the usual suspects. If it was Binnington, there is always the qualifiers about which goals were his fault and which weren’t. Hofer never gets that benefit, thus a higher standard.
