“be classy don’t boo the anthem”

so i responded with a list of how things are changing in the US and maybe booing isn’t a bad thing.

i provided sources to back up my points…

suddenly you paint me as a wacko in a tinfoil hat arguing against no one.

as i said maybe shoving your head up your ass and ignoring the world works for you…

The president of the USA has identified the Canadian border as a threat to National security, initiated a Trade war, and has increased his talk of taking our resources, and annexing our nation….

But here in Jets land…acknowledging this is “tinfoil hat conspiracy” and booing is rude and mean and might hurt some Americans feelings.🙄🙄🙄🙄
Take your meds...

I get folks who don't want to disrespect the American anthem and especially the American players on our team. But their president is openly talking about annexing Canada against our will, and I guarantee Americans would boo the anthem of any country that did that to them. Anyone who rolls over for that seems pretty timid in my book. And to attempt to make this less political, huge hats off to leaders like Ford who I don't agree with normally but he is stepping up for our country and we should all be on the same side for that.

Thanks for the GDT @macmaroon

Lots of memories packed in there. My history with the Jets is very long indeed, having been taken to games in the first WHA season as a wee child. I never did much with the autograph side of things however.

One of the most memorable aspects of the WHA era was my continuous battle with my dad to stay until the end of the game. He hated sitting in traffic so if the game wasn't close, we were out the door with five minutes left in the game. I hated that so much. Don't get me wrong, I loved my dad for taking me and appreciated him, it was just that aspect that gutted me each time. It was always past my bedtime so that was part of the reason I wanted to stay (I used to get my parents to leave HNIC on with the volume up so I could hear the three stars - it also let me stay up past my bedtime of 9, even though I was in bed listening).

Jets 1.0 NHL years were lots of fun too and the 90s were great as I finally had some disposable income of my own. In University but those cheap seats were awesome, I attended so many games under the portrait of the Queen and in the upper decks.

GJG.
That's so funny... my wife gives me grief because I will never leave early, I would always keep my kids out at games way past their bedtimes. I hate leaving early, under any circumstances. Besides, traffic was never really an issue at Jets games anyway, 1.0 or 2.0.

I started going to games in the late 80s. My first game was October 30, 1988 vs. LA. That was the game when the Jets exploded for seven unanswered goals to win 8-4 (after being down 4-1 in the second). Fergie got fired three days later.

I had decent seats for that game, but then for years after that it was the 7-Eleven nosebleeds. Started out at $7, then went up to $8, then $9 by the early 90s. It's funny, the upper decks at the old barn get all the hype for being steep but those 7-Eleven seats way up in the south end were crazy. I doubt that there were ever more rows in a section anywhere in the NHL. It was so bloody high up in those expansion seats (added in 1979), and it was one terrifyingly long staircase all the way down to just about ice level. Never saw anyone take a tumble but man it was a long ride for anyone who did.

I get folks who don't want to disrespect the American anthem and especially the American players on our team. But their president is openly talking about annexing Canada against our will, and I guarantee Americans would boo the anthem of any country that did that to them. Agree 100%.

It's so funny, not even 24 hours ago we were staring down a leader declaring economic war on us for the stated purpose of annexing our country against our will.

Today it's "well you've gotta be polite"

Exactly. We have 3 years and 11 months ahead of Trump “joking” and “hearing from people” that Canada should be the 51st state, testing the waters until things really go crazy and he actually tries to make a move.

Would love a much louder “STRONG AND FREE” tonight too along with raucous boos.

Trump is not going to take Canada LOL, cmon man do some of you people really think this? Tariffs sure, continuously be a dick and talk dumb shit, sure absolutely, straight up annex Canada by force, just NO, not in a million years.

Asked if he would use military force to annex Canada, he replied “no — economic force. Because Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially-drawn line and you take a look at what that looks like, and it would also be much better for national security — don’t forget, we basically protect Canada.”

When people show you who they are, believe it

TIme for some overtly Canadian haiku:

Yeah, I'll be curious to see how many people boo the anthem then don't boo Connor or Helle. Why not just an extra loud "TRUE NORTH"?

Regardless of anyone's politics, it would be nice for Canadians to show the world how classy we are and how we choose to take the high road in a situation like this. Our kindness, politeness and generosity has at times set us apart from our southern neighbors on the world stage

Of course, cheeky chants directed at our opposition are excluded lol

Connor and Helle are individuals. The anthem signifies the country. We are being attacked by the government of that country.

I don't plan on booking, but I won't be taking off my hat and standing for their anthem.

I wonder how many posters would rather be to the left of us on there, but underneath us. More than a few I'd bet... more "sustainable" lol

I'm pretty certain none of the analytics nerds would suggest there's any more sustainable quadrant to be in then "Out-chancing & Out-scoring."

If they don't want the anthem booed, the solution is to not play the anthem, not to silence the people who choose to make their voices heard.

Boo away if you feel like it.

Cheers. Grown adults with critical thinking skills understand what the booing symbolises, and that it is not aimed at American players or the American people as a whole.

He has said it multiple times. People keep making the mistake of not believing him. Things he says are just too outrageous to believe. But he means most of what he says.

Right now he has more power than any President has ever had since Washington. Both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court are in his pocket. There are no checks and balances left. He can do anything he wants.

Pretty sure in the other thread you said something along the lines of "they voted him in or were complicit if they didn't vote",no? Should I go look for a screenshot or have you changed your tune a little?

Things change when you put a face and a name to the people that you're denigrating it seems.. like my family and friends down there

This is exactly what Ukrainians said about Putler and Russia. Look how that turned out. And of you think the US under any government regime isn't capable/willing to do the exact same thing, you've drank the kool-aid and essentially stated 'come and get us when you are ready'.
