When most I wink, then do mine eyes best see,
For all this day they view Jets vs. soft warm ‘Canes;
Ghost and Aho weep, Rants cries and wipes snot awee,
The ample shyte is bright in Andersen’s overt shame.
But Farmhand, whose shadow Shuffles doth make bright,
And then Perfecto’s shadows form happy shows
To the clear day with thy much clearer light,
When to the our eyes, the ‘Canes shade shines so!
How would, I say, Scotty’s power be blessed made
By gazing upon an Eel stuff’d second line in the living day,
And when in dead night Martinook’s itching shade
Like a bloated sheep on sightless eyes doth stay!
All days are nights to see till I see Helly,
And these bright days when mine eyes see wheel and celly.

Thanks @macmaroon - now look at whot ye've done, ye've disturbed the slumber of thousands of nascent coelacanthine memories of glory, victory, sudden death, signatures gone awee, and sundry talented gaberlunzies galavanting amok in days of yore.

Good on ye. :)
Go Jets, seek thine magic to lay waste, this pack of opposing swine are as fricking stacked as any roster in the league.

:jets :jets :jets :jets

To celebrate today's game, I shoveled the skiff off the walk, brushed the frost off the car, unplugged it and warmed it up I have decided to charge myself at a rate of $15.25 per hour, plus 7% PST and a tariff of 25% (I lived in Montana for a couple of years).

I won't collect until March 3.

Sound fair?

Hockey question: What is our overall record (Jets 2.0) vs the Sugar Canes/soft warm zephyrs?

I haven't been to a Jets game this year and have gone through the schedule to see if one game stood out above the rest. Yesterday, I turned fifty-five years old and noticed that today's Jets game against the Carolina Hurricanes is the 55th of the season. Then I looked in my closet and pulled out my Mark Scheifele jersey. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I think it was telling me this was the game to go see...

I've been a Jets fan ever since I was a little kid growing up in the shadow of the Winnipeg Arena. I remember my father used to bring home cardstock from his workplace that I would use to make things. I remember making a Jofa helmet, complete with a chin strap, just like the ones Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson wore in the WHA. I had my mini Jets stick and I would fly around the house scoring imaginary goals against the opposing teams...

I remember my father took me to see a game against the Birmingham Bulls one night. It was quite a blowout and afterwards he took me downstairs to see my heroes after the game. When it came time to meet them, I got scared and asked to go home. To this day, I regret not being able to meet Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg, and Ulf Nilsson, that certainly would have been an awesome memory...

I never did go to any of the Avco Cup parades, as I was a good kid and would never “skip” school. One of my friends did, and said it was awesome! That certainly would have been a great experience...

As stated earlier in a previous GDT, my father took me to my first NHL Jets game and I spent my time watching the antics of the Chicken Delight Chicken as my sister's boyfriend, at the time, was dressed in it. My dad was so mad at me as he got the tickets for me to watch the game and not some stupid chicken...

My friends and I used to get free tickets from school to see the Winnipeg Warriors play, since we lived so close, it was always fun to go (even though they were awful). I remember one game, I noticed a lineup forming behind the net with kids getting autographs from someone, so I ventured over there. It turned out to be Dale Hawerchuk and he was kindly signing autographs one by one, and I had my game program signed by him. By the time I got back to my friends to tell them who it was, he had left, so they were out of luck...

My parents loved going to garage sales, and I usually tagged along. One sale stood out as it was at Dale Hawerchuk's house the day he got traded. He wasn't outside when we were looking over his stuff, but when we went to the car, he popped out and I waved to him as we were driving away, but I don't think he saw me...

I remember going to Grant Park High School for a sports card show and two Jets were in attendance to sign autographs, Daniel “The Bandit” Berthiume and Tom Draper. I waited in line and when I asked for Berthiume's autograph, we was too busy playing “kissy kissy” with his girlfriend and pointed to a pile of pictures he had already signed. Real nice guy, eh? Anyway, Tom Draper was super nice and answered all of the questions that I asked and signed one of the cards that I had...

I also went to a signing at the old Marshall-Wells warehouse at the corner of Ellice and Empress. I remember waiting in line to get some of the Jets autographs, when it was my turn to get Phil Housley's autograph, as he had just been traded to Winnipeg. I gave him my card and he said he didn't sign Buffalo Sabres cards. I told him that he did not have any Winnipeg Jets cards yet, but Housley wouldn't sign my card. Finally, one of the other Jets told him, “Just sign the card for the kid already, Phil”. He bowed his head like he was defeated and reluctantly signed my card. I can't remember who it was (I am thinking Randy Carlyle) but I never cared for Phil Housley after that...

As an adult, I went to quite a few Jets 1.0 games, usually getting the University half price tickets after 4:00pm. I remember one game I stayed after to get some autographs and John Paddock tried to sign my cards with the pen I had. “You need to buy a sharpie, kid,” he said, “this pen is no good.” He was right, though, the pen was no good and all I have to show for it is and indentation on the card where he tried to sign...

I went to the final goodbye for the Jets at the arena. It was a very sad occasion, and I cried. I stopped watching NHL hockey after that and just wasn't interested in it at all. It was like a piece of me was missing and i just couldn't replace it with anything...

When it was announced that Mark Chipman had purchased the Atlanta Thrashers and was moving the team to Winnipeg. it was probably one of the most exhilarating days of my life. I could not believe that we were getting a team back! After work I headed to The Forks, but by then, the crowd had dissipated so I missed out on all the excitement...

I got my ticket to the draft party that year, and it was nice to see so many people in Jets jerseys show up. We still didn't know what the team was going to be called, but that didn't stop us from wishing. I remember when it was our turn to pick, everyone was chanting “Couturier” and then they announced the team name and everyone cheered, and then they announced we had selected Mark Scheifele, and everyone gasped “Who?” No one knew who that kid was and we all thought it was a mistake. Well, it turned out this Scheifele character wasn't half bad after all...

I was able to get a ticket to see the team in the first season, against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a very good game, the Jets lead 4-0 before the 'Canes got two in the third. All I can remember is how loud it was in the arena, it was quite the experience, from start to finish, the noise was deafening! Subsequent games that I have been to have not had that feel, but then I haven't been to a playoff game, yet...

Let's hope the Jets come out like gangbusters and beat the Hurricanes tonight...

Go Jets Go! :hockey:
Great stories and memories good sir! Thank you for sharing them.

I dunno, but I have bad memories of them beating us in the Southeast Division years

I remember the game when we had the "Jordan's Better" chant going at Eric Stall... he put up 1G 2A and they beat us

Best part was the Canes were chanting it at him after the game in the locker room lol

That cardboard Jofa was probably better than the real thing. And oh....I hear that those John Paddock indentations are worth $ now.

There was one game where me and my buddy Mike had tickets to Kings at Jets in 1989 I think. I can’t find it but there is that pre game interview with Don Cherry and there is me in the back ground with my Minnesota Golden Gophers hat and sun ice jacket and Mike immediately behind Grapes.

Don was talking about his buddy “snake” from LA with a fancy black hat and was especially “ritzed” up for that interview.

All you people who think boing isn't classy?

They are building Detainee camps in the USA at Gitmo...they are already starting to fill them. How long till they become "work camps"?
They are sweeping up "non-white people" indiscriminately and deporting them...Indigenous, american citizens. naturalized citizens born in thier own nation.. because "they don't look American"
this isn't hyperbole. this isn't conspiracy. this is fact proudly proclaimed by the president of the USA.

It's not Maga anymore..it's the government, the courts, tho police and military.

People need to leave classy by the wayside and move on to actually resisting fascism.

Trump won't be stopped. He wants Canadian resources and will take them from us.....

But yeah "don't upset the Americans. it's not classy"..

Without looking it up, my recollection is that the Jets generally lose at home to Carolina but generally win games there. Could be talking out of my ass though.

Great stories!

I didn't get to go to a ton of 1.0 games growing up until I got a little older and could drive, (grew up outside the city), but I do have a lot of fond memories.

- Shopping in the city at probably The Bay or Sears and going with my dad to a counter where someone would be there to sell Jets tickets. You'd have to have a bunch of back and forths because the technology wasn't what we have now so the person was likely just seeing numbers. "What date", "Ok, what $ point"? "Here's some sections", and then proceeds to show you on a diagram on the table where those seats might be, etc.
- I remember going to the 1st game I think the Bandit played. It might not have been, but it was in the playoffs against Calgary.
- The games I did get to go to with my dad, he would buy me one of those mini plastic sticks. I had a couple and me and my friends would use it along with a tapeball and play mini sticks in my basement for hours.
- Repeated heartbreak curtesy of the Oilers and Flames.
- Does anyone else remember when the RCMP would have those Jets "cards"?
- Going to whiteout games with friends were a blast.
- Being able to see guys like Gretzky and Lemieux live (when Lemieux decided he would play in Winnipeg lol).
- I was lucky enough to have a friend ask me to go to a game one random night as his family had season tickets. I think it was the only game we went to together. Turns out it was a pretty special night as Teemu Selanne scored 3 goals and broke Mike Bossy's rookie goal scoring record. I'm sure 30K Winnipeggers say they were also there, but I still have the ticket stub!
- I bought nosebleed tickets to the World Junior finals (forget the year). It was rocking as well. I think it was Afinogenov that scored on Luongo in the end. I can't imagine the noise if it went the other way.
- I was also at the very last game (the playoff loss to the Wings). That Wings team was beyond an all-star team, they were like a hall of fame team. Very sad at the end.
- Also went to all the Portage and Main, as well as the Forks rallies to Save the Jets.
- Remember going to the "Funeral" at the Arena and having Eddie O telling everyone, "Wherever this team goes, and when they win the cup, IT'S COMING BACK TO WINNIPEG!" lol.

Happy Birthday @macmaroon

Thanks for sharing those awesome stories. Since you have the magic 55 going on, I think that Scheifele will score a hat trick (please don't throw your mother's hat on the ice).

My best 1.0 memory was watching the infamous Birmingham Bulls brawl where Bobby Hull's toupee was torn off. He returned to the ice wearing a helmet.

In our last 10 meetings, we have won 5, they've won 5

last year we won 2 of 2, beat them in dec 2-1, and in march 5-3 (comeback victory, we were down 3-0 and scored 5 in the third if I remember correctly)

Is there another thread where people are saying booing isn’t classy? Not disagreeing with the content, but This post seemed to come out of nowhere,

Who are you fighting with?

Sports, and music, and arts are great places for everyone to come together and put differences aside and connect as humans. Or at least they used to be.

Crazy days!!

Go jets go!!

Lots of memories from the old barn...

I remember being at a whiteout game and my friend and I were right beside each other talking and it was too loud for us to hear... that was right before the anthems lol

In grade 10 my team was selling 50/50 tickets.. back then they only printed 5000 and they sold for a dollar. My coach took my buddy and I up to the upper deck to sell because it was slower up ther and he liked us lol.. my buddy sold a ticket to a girl in our class at school and she won the full $2500

Yeah, I'll be curious to see how many people boo the anthem then don't boo Connor or Helle. Why not just an extra loud "TRUE NORTH"?

Regardless of anyone's politics, it would be nice for Canadians to show the world how classy we are and how we choose to take the high road in a situation like this. Our kindness, politeness and generosity has at times set us apart from our southern neighbors on the world stage

Of course, cheeky chants directed at our opposition are excluded lol
