I've never been to montreal but it's on my list.
My dad told me recently that he went there in his early 20s; hes never been much of a drinker or partyer but he told me "something in the air told him it needed to be done" and so he ended up getting blackout and seeing some peelers with his pals.

predictions:
1 Jets PP in the 3rd
MTL gets 3 PP's
Jets are hungover
Helly saves the game, but barely

TIme for a tiny Heiny hat trick. :)
Yup, That’s what Sip’ does. He’s like a gifted orthopedic surgeon..
Dr. Sip: “Tiny, I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but you’ll never walk again..”
Tiny: Get the hell out of here Doc, I’m getting a second opinion from Dr. Kanadalainen. I’ll show you!”

While the Jets are on the road Chevy better be doing what the Avs did.
Set up his team to win this year and additional years and manage the Cap Space and NOT lose Ehlers for nothing!
#27 as I type this is probably talking to a realtor for his new place. Don't F*** it up Chevy.

Avs traded a bigger piece of their team than Ehlers is to the Jets, judging by the way Ehlers has been treated here. (Ehlers is my fav player on the Jets BTW and I don't want to lose that player for nothing)

Things I like to see today vs Habs:
- Ehlers not going to the wrong bench after a long shift.
- Laine not scoring on a Muffin-Shot
- Hung over Jets players
- Jets getting at least PP :)
- Helly getting support from teammates & playing responsible
- and last but not least, Ehlers remembering to board the plane after the game with teammates (unless he was traded post game :sarcasm:)
Yep Rantanen was the undisputed 3rd best player on Avs. There is a lot of dispute in how you order 2-5 between Mo, KFC, Ehlers, schief, Lowry. Tho, Ehlers is #2 is most people's hearts on this board.

You're a gem @macmaroon I remember what you wrote. You keep your mom's memory alive and well by sharing stories of her. Chin up, good sir. It was a touching read, another great GDT and a very nice hat.

I have my own unique relationship with each of my folks, but I've always been a momma's boy. She's the most selfless person I know. Went above and beyond to make the childhood of my siblings and I a special one.

When we were kids, she used to collect milk cartons for the winter. When it got below freezing outside, she'd fill them with water and put drops of different food colouring in them. Once the water froze, we'd strip off the carton and make a snow fort with all the coloured ice blocks. We used to build it in the front yard because that's the way the kitchen faced (which she hated) and she wanted to keep an eye on us. Once my brother and I began using it as cover to throw snowballs at passing cars, she started building the fort out back :D

It's been special watching my wife become a mother, seeing the same qualities I love about my mom, in her. If only I could get her to care about the Jets the way my mom does... alas, it's looking grim so far.

I've kept no secrets about my love for the band Protomartyr. Their lead singer, Joey Casey, dealt with the passing of his mother before their most recent album in 2023. Here's an excerpt from an interview he did:

Your mother passed in between the last record and the new one. What's your journey with grief been like?
One of the reasons why Protomartyr started was because my dad died in 2008 and I was like, "Oh shit, I'm not doing anything with my life. Instead of going to a shitty job and doing nothing, I should go to a shitty job and be in a band for fun." My dad dying was really sudden and unexpected, and it changed our family. My mom was obviously dealing with some really heavy grief, and I was living with her, but then she immediately started showing signs of dementia and lessened capacity. Her mom had Alzheimer's, so I was like, "OK, this might be happening."

It was ten years of her slowly getting worse and worse, and my brother moving back from Virginia so she could move into her house and so he could take care of her. He had the heaviest burden and was taking care of her for some time, but I'd come over and help out as well. After dealing with that sudden grief, I'd been grieving my mom for almost a decade. "Why would this happen to somebody?"

Someone dying of dementia or Alzheimer's is a very slow process. You think you see the end in sight, and it gets worse and worse. By the end, it was a combination of being very sad to lose her, but because we'd been grieving her for such a long time, it was also a relief that she was able to die at home with my brother beside her. It was as peaceful of a death as you could hope. It was a weird combination of carrying this grief and depression for ten years, and now that she's gone, she wouldn't want me to be like, "Continue to carry it for the rest of your life." I no longer need to have this grief around me. So it was much different from when my dad died, and I think that led me to thinking a little more positively. I can't just wade around in this pool any longer.

Here's a song he did for her, maybe you'll enjoy it. Either way, it goes out to you and your mom, Mac.

Lyrics:
I'm gonna tell you
This one born upon a kitchen table
When she passed away
Sleeping cross the shoulder of my brother

Can I make you see
The simple beauty in the knowing of her?
If there's good in me
Chant it out to her
She is the author

Sing it fully in the morning
Chant it wildly in the day
Pray to lovers in the evening
Cry it softly in the night

Time's your enemy
Every gift you see will be taken for sure
So I figure while you live
Kiss the ones that love you
For thе song you sing

Here's an interesting stat and more proof of game management by the refs.
Montreal in 6 games has given the opposition 23 PPs ... almost 4 per game.
The next game Montreal plays the Devils the 2nd best PP in the league and the Devils only get one PP.
Tonight Montreal plays the Jets the best PP in the league ... how many PPs do the Jets get?

Very disappointed with the replies to this GDT. I pour my heart out to you all, and this is what I get. :shakehead

Completely understandable.

I generally don't post in this thread while the game is on, I prefer to delay watching it to skip through the commercials, but I appreciate the work that you put into these. I view these being in the spirit of fun, and building a communal vibe to the forum; at least leading up to the game (before all hell breaks loose).

The Jets have a bit over 18 minutes of powerplay time over the past ten games, by far the worst in the NHL. In fact, 23 teams have more than double the powerplay time than the Jets over that period.

In addition, the Jets have the 4th highest penalty kill time over that period.

Another year, another trip to Montreal and more speculation that one of our boys will be heading there in the off-season.

If Ehlers wants to reunite with Laine, go for it. Hopefully he doesn't sign for too long, though. I'm not wishing for it, but I can still see Habs fans running Patty out of town once the honeymoon phase is over.

We have had a bit of trouble with Les Canadiens the last few seasons. iirc Lowry had a big 1st period at the Bell Centre last campaign and it was ultimately squandered. An uncharacteristically shakey outing from Brossoit early in the season was the difference in our shootout loss to them.

Would be nice if the boys could start this Eastern swing by doing the double over the bleu, blanc et rouge and their elitist fanbase.

Let's go with a Mad Dog road hatty, in honor of Macs ma!

A beauty LMFAO moment from their site. Oh Habs fans....never change or become lucid:

"Jets have solid D with goaltending but I feel the Habs have an advantage on lines 2, 3, 4 and the top line is neutral."

That last part......whoa......someone has gotten into the crystal meth early today......

Speaking of Say hello, tonight's music is from a great Canadian band from Montreal.

Agree fully - they were a great Canadian band - My first concert as a kid! I know they have some links to Montreal, but weren't they actually from Tufts Cove (suburb of Dartmouth/Halifax Nova Scotia)? Regardless, they are Canadian gold!

I could probably tell you who that is just from interacting with a few of their fans in the trade forum during the Dubois fiasco. They're one of the best fanbases in the league but also have some fans who I'll call homers to be nice.

I was able to find footage of the Jets first ever victory against the Canadiens. It's at home as I believe the Jets lost their first ever game in Montreal 7-0 and would lose by greater margins over the years, finally winning their first in the Forum in 1984?

I just retired the old Coopers this year, for some new equipment, that I still haven't figured out.

Habs I think are the biggest frauds among the Eastern WC contenders. Hope the Jets come out skating put on a show under the bright lights and the energy of the Bell Center.

Yes you are correct, originally from Halifax but moved to Montreal early on and were based out of Montreal for most of their career. I got to see them a few times live, so good and so many great tunes.

Going by this comparison shouldn't Montreal be 1st overall in the NHL......

Weird how the Jets have scored 30 more goals than the Habs when the Habs have straight up superior forwards and the best offensive D-man in the game.:dunno:

Newfoundland and NS IIRC.

I did a residency in MTL a while back and somehow ended up seeing April Wine in all their pomp, and…

It was a blast. Miles still had his pipes and the crowd was right into it. They weren’t really a thing in the UK where we grew up but I was converted and am now a proud owner of their greatest hits.

And our first bairn added Roller and Gypsy Queen to his toddler repertoire of tunes belted out from the car seat, amazing his UK and French grandparents.

Go Jets! Would be nice to beat a team we usually struggle with in their building. I’d kif a Nikki hattie…

For my own mental wellness I simply avoid going to the Maple Leafs and Canadiens boards.

I believe the Bombers always lose in Montreal but not saying it is because of the partying but there is regular roster turnover and new Americans on the team every year. The Jets have been there before and it is winter plus Nik and Laine will have both teams more interested in their Xbox challenge than partying with peelers!

That is some 100% bona fide, coo-coo bananas delusion going on. Wow.

I just gotta say, you got some pretty big gumshoes to fill there, Frank. Barnaby broke Inannagate, probably the biggest scandal in HF Boards history. Ya gotta figure he/she/them will be back at some point, and we're all relying on you to smoke them out again.
