Carter's defense has been crap since he got here. I really think that is the main reason he has been with Kopitar.

I totally disagree. He's been solid positionally and has a very sneaky stick. Unfortunately right now he's been very shaky and Brown has been a spectator and when he gets the puck he is a turnover magnet in our zone. That first line's defense has fallen flat since Brown joined.

Kings are never going to be an Elite team.Kopitar would have to become Crosby or Getzlaf for that to happen.

Kopitar is not an Elite Center.

There is no hockey person that would agree with you about Kopitar. He is universally praised as a top 10 center and most cost him top 5.

I have a long post I have been writing and researching about the Kings lack of offense and one of the big reasons is TM's influence on players offensive development, in particular Kopitar and Brown.

Murray for better or worse molded Kopitar into the player he is today, only once has Kopi been able to match the goals and points total he had as a 20 year old player under Marc Crawford. Kopitar's offensive game, in particular the chances he takes were completely removed from his game, so he can play world class defensive hockey. If Kopitar played like Richards for instance, his numbers would go up, but his defense would suffer. But at this point it's a valid discussion as to whether the Kings could use him thinking more offensively at the expense of his defense.

Don't get me wrong. I like having a "good" Kings team, and without doubt, that's what we have had for the last few years (and, gods willing, the next few at least). I'm just greedy. I would love to have them be "elite", if only for a little while -- and that's orthogonal to them winning the Cup :)
